Ordered Huli Huli Chicken with Mac Salad and Spam Musubi. Giving 4 starts because I love Hawaiian Food. Generally the food was more on the 3 star quality, in my opinion. Huli Huli means turn turn. Huli Huli chicken is usually grilled to get some charred bits on the chicken. Usually cooked as quarter or half chicken. Cook the chicken, and turn as it cooks then add marinade at the end. Hawaiian Bros uses cut chicken, marinated and cooked on a flat top. So instead of charring, it more steamed. Flavor is a teriyaki style. I ate em all. Mac Salad for me is the Rainbow Drive-In in Honolulu. The overcooked mac (yes is supposed to be soft) is sauced with creamy mayo and hint of black pepper. Rather simple, but so good. This Mac Salad was similar. I ate em all Musubi is usually Teriyaki flavored sauteed Spam on rice with furikake, wrapped in nori. This is what they served. The spam was thinner then I expected. Seems usually a can it cut into 8 pieces, I'm guessing they cut into 12. I did not recognize the spam, maybe they make their own. I personally make my own with 4 kinds of pork. Still, I ate em all. Last, there is some concern with the cooking process. I noted after they cooked the chicken, the put into 1/2 pan. The concern is they lined that pan with a plastic bag. Today people will not drink from a plastic straw or plastic water bottle. Folks are concerned about chemicals leaching from plastic into their food. I was surprised to see the usage of plastic that is not needed. The only reason I can think of is to reduce cleaning time. I am not personally over concerned about plastics and food, but if you reading this are, be advised. The place is clean. The service was good. The speed was quick. They have kiosk ordering, which I'm good with, and I was ask if I needed an assistance. That is good customer service. So I gave 4. The items noted are my opinion, that is the point of a review. Make your own. I'll go back when I need my Hawaiian fix, when I'm not cooking my own at home. I did live in Hawaii for 4 years, so this is where my...
Ā Ā Ā Read more-THANK YOU MARY Just goin through the drive thru to pick up a DoorDash order for someone, never having been to Hawaiian Bros myself. Mary was working the window, she was so sweet and excited to tell me what she thought of the Spam Musubi they have on their menu. I was telling her how the few times Iād tried spam I didnāt care for it. I was curious that it was cooked with Teriyaki, I like it and rice w/seaweed. Telling me she felt the same way until she tried it, and now she really likes this Musubi. She convinced me, but I was in the middle of picking up an order for someone else. I told her Iād have to come back after and try it, that I saw a few other things on the menu that looked interesting too. She was so nice.. She went and got me one of their Musubi things for me to try, she just asked that I leave her a review (they can see our reviews guys!! So let them know how awesome they are :). ) so she could read what I thought of it haha So, Mary. I did like it! You were right, itās different but definitely the best way Iāve tried spam. Itās way more filling than I figured it was going to be too! It also wasnāt as salty as I remembered, not sure if the salt from the spam and sugar from the Teriyaki cancel eachother out or what but I liked the combo :) Iāll definitely have to come back and explore the menu further, thank you for the positive experience! Itās not very often you find folks who actually seem to really enjoy where they work and the work they do (bossman, donāt get her in trouble please! I already posted about yall on my Snapchat and you have a future returning customer. Sheās awesome, should give her a raise! `{ā¢.ā¢}/ā ...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreBeing native Hawaiian (Kanaka) living here on the main land Hawaiian Bros is the closest I can get to my aina and kaukau on some ono kine grindz. My husband took me here for the first time. Upon walking in it was such a nice surprise to hear authentic classic Hawaiian music. I recognized most of the songs played during my visit. Brought me back to being a keiki back home. We then looked over the menu, it was very limited unfortunately. After a quick look I ordered couple spam musubi first. Then after another browse I ended up ordering the mixed plate (2 choices) their version of hulihuli chicken and kalua pork w/ rice n mac salad. My husband then ordered the 2 choice mixed plate w/ kalua pork and molakai chicken w/ rice n mac salad with 2 Hawaiian Sun drinks and fresh ono pineapple. The Hawaiian Bros house teriyaki and pineapple bbq sauce is so addicting. I loved the flavors. Authentic Hawaiian food, no...but "inspired" by authentic Hawaiian aina..., yes. If I can't go back home to da islandz or even want to make da kine in my own kitchen this is the next best thing. Plus my Hawaiian Sun especially Lilikoi is my favorite. After the cashier asked me how was the food compared to the authentic kine she informed both me and my husband that they offer a free membership and how they offer a rewards program. When becoming a rewards member you got a free pineapple/ strawberry frozen twist. It was super light and airy. I recommend stopping by to get the idea of real kine Hawaiian food. Note: The mac salad definitely not authentic. For those true kanaka.... if you...
