I have been aware of Picasso's existence for quite some time but never made an effort to drive to Delano for their pizza, from the far east side. It was a Sunday mid afternoon so the place was not busy. No problem ordering and got my pizza within about 10-15 minutes. The first thing I noticed was the slice was absolutely smothered in ingredients (The Kitchen Sink). The pizza prep guy asked if I wanted it sliced...yes. There is no way you can pick up that "floppy" slice without everything falling off of it.
So I was expecting a great pizza based on it size and abundance of toppings. Two bites into it, I knew it was a total DUD. There is absolutely no red sauce on their pizza. Thus no flavor other than that which comes from the partially baked copious green peppers, onion and mushrooms. The meat ingredients are super bland in their flavor contribution to the pizza. The supposed "Italian Sausage" was simply plain old Pork nuggets with no Italian spice in them at all. I also could barely detect any cheese. It is not visible because they spread whatever little there is, as a thin layer on top of the dough before they bury it with the other toppings. Where's the Sauce ???
So here's the thing. This place relies on the novelty/gimmick of serving humongous pizza slices, which might be appealing to those who have no sense of "taste" and just think it's cool. And to call this "New York style" pizza is an insult to the New York pizza industry. As the old saying goes, "It's Not The Size That Matters" which certainly applies in this situation. Put some dang sauce on your pizza. Any one of the Big Three in town (Domino's, Pizza Hut, Papa John's) , blows Picasso's away on flavor, because that is where the value is when you go for pizza, along with texture. So their Humongous pizza slice is a Ginormous waste of calories. I had to apologize to both my heart and my taste buds for subjecting them to this disappointment. They put my mouth in "time out". Guess I won't be eating for a couple days...
Read moreThe location was great, but i would not come again. Pros: Good Atmosphere. Decent staff. Lots of room.
Cons: Very high prices. Pizza did not taste great for the cost. The place begins to close at 9:30 shutting down the soda machines, Officially closes at 10pm.
The pizza from a place like this should taste better than something i can buy frozen from walmart. With Pizza hut being across the street I expected better.
We showed up Saturday and ordered Three pizzas. One was a 'Meat Lovers', the other was a chicken and mushrooms, and a veggie pizza. We waited 15m for one pizza, 30min for the other two, even though they were ordered at the same time. When the group finally began to eat we all noticed the same thing. The pizza crust and cheese was HOT, but the toppings were cold. The sausage and chicken tasted funny. The meat lovers almost tasted like it was still frozen. The texture was wrong in a way i couldn't quite put my finger on it. We ate our pizza and talked for almost 30 more minutes when the staff started to shut down the store. The pop machines were broken down, the chairs were lifted so they could sweep, and we felt pressured to leave. We left the store at about 940.
When we got home we decided to eat the rest of the pizza, and we put it in the over since we all agreed it felt undercooked.. Even after doing that and adding additional seasoning (salt, pepper) the pizza still tasted wrong. It wasn't expired ingredients, it was like buying the off brand version of a product. We ended up throwing half of the pizzas away.
Overall the service was OK (not 5 stars) and the food was...
Read morePicasso's is doing a good job conforming to the new norm of face masks, gloves, frequent sanitization, and covid themed signage. The industrial motif of exposed ductwork and brick persists. It is a very cumfortable and casual atmosphere.
My companion and I both oedered a slice of "art"; mine with the kitchen sink and hers with just peperoni. We decided to split the antipasto salad advertised as Capicola ham, pepperoni, salami, red onion, black olive and provolone served over greens.
The salad came first. It was a nice mix of greens with not a leaf of iceberg in sight. The onion and olive flanked a roll of meat and cheese which was sliced and lay across the center of the salad. Nice presentation and quality of product. I do however think, from the desctiption, I expected more vegies, cheese, and meat and less greens. The ratio was a little off for my liking.
Our slices of pizza were dinner plate sized and scrumptious. The thin crust was just a little crispy and held up well under the toppings. The thicker edge had just the right chew in the center. The sauce was not overpowering and in my opinion was a high quality pizza sauce. The cheese and other toppings didnt exceed any expectations but they did meet with my expectations. Good flavor and obviously decent quality.
Ill keep going back to try the other recipes. Who knows maybe ill find one that blows me away. I just wont...
