Mmmm. Tomato Soup. What a perfect day weather wise for that simple, slightly rich comfort food. Plus, it's the cheapest thing on the menu. Their finest tap water w/ice will accompany. Hmm. Been a few years and a relationship ago that I was here last... What's changed? Unfortunately we found it was the service and the quality. After our food was served in a reasonable fashion, after a unreasonable accident(she brought my friend a tall glass sour drink mixer instead of a Mountain Dew)- I'm not joking- "I've worked here 6 months, nobody has ever ordered Mountain Dew." Utoh. Houston, we a problem. Visually the steaming mug of orange goo looked dynamite. I wish it had tasted like glycerin, to warn my tummy about what was about to go off. I only finished half a cup. Bout 30 mins later I was puking behind half a brick wall. ....now full disclosure, I've been sober 5 days. Withdrawals?
Let's wrap this up, I've used too many words regretting $5. But its a cup. A $5 cup of soup. ....Why is it so lumpy, chunky? This is a bisque. Shame. Not what I ordered. I do enjoy a bisque or two but not this one. Something off about it, what is that taste... Is it a weird melted cheese? No... Acidic... Fleshy texture. The tomatoes. I have to know what kind of tomato they use.
Came to find out their recipe for tomato soup, Here ya go: Marinara + whipping cream
Dumbfounded. Didn't realize it was so easy to make vomit. Google later told me that the simplest Tomato Bisque(not soup) is made w/garden tomatoes, onion & butter slow cooked. My friends ate their order without major compliant. We were starving.
10 out of 10 would not go again. Sorry guys, I really wanted to sing the melody...
Read moreI’m very disappointed in the service we received Sunday evening at the Monarch. I have been countless times and they are normally very slow with service. But I enjoy their food so I like to keep going there. My table ordered food. One order was incorrect and one came out only after we asked the manager checked on it. It was back and forth with the server just wanting to get what we ordered with big chunks of time between each interaction with her. We didn’t care what happened just wanted the correct food. We just continued to wait and wait.. The managed proceeds to finally come out and asked what was wrong. Explained we didn’t get the right food and also had been waiting on my husband’s food for quite sometime. He went to go investigate. He came back and proceeded to tell us the server was saying something different than the four of us. Then he told us we made the server upset and that “there were two sides to every story.” Not apologetic, very short and placed the blame on us. He finally brought out my husband’s food after he asked for it in a to go box. As we’re waiting for the check, I looked in my water cup and there was a fly towards the bottom of my water glass. My husband showed the manager and asked if he was going to take care of that. The manager proceeded to say “We don’t know when the fly got in there.” Safe to say this was the worst experience I’ve had in a restaurant and we will not...
Read moreI like to think of The Monarch as the Iconic Heart of Wichita's Delano District. Situated on a roundabout it is impossible not to be drawn in by the inviting patio and delicious smells as you drive past. There is ample parking on the street or in the lot behind the restaurant itself and 2 entries for customer convenience. The patio is perfect for people-watching and a little sunshine while you eat or refresh yourself with one of many signature cocktails or local brews. The name Monarch is very fitting as it seems that the restaurant is ever evolving, transforming into something new and exciting without losing the comfort of it's originality. The inside atmosphere provides a range of seating options from bar to booth and high-top tables to suit all comfort levels and is adorned with unique pieces that intrigue diners as they dine without the hokey flair of some chain establishments. In each of my memorable experiences at The Monarch, the staff have been attentive, knowledgeable and courteous without being overly supplicant, I've always felt that I'm speaking with a friend who invited me over to dinner rather than a 'customer'. There are a myriad of choices for dining in Wichita but the Monarch is in my top 3 for a very good reason. Take a visit for yourself...
