What, quality fast-food Mexican? Yes, it's here.
The front desk order crew at Filibertos is young and somewhat inexperienced, however their intense friendliness and desire to help makes them solid. The cooks are obviously in the zone. Great food for a fast-food place. Be careful though, the portions are gigantic! I ordered this time from the "Jr." menu and was actually able to finish my chicken burro. Lovely. Last visit I carried 1/3 of my order home. Massive.
One bizarre aspect presented itself and needs the owner's attention: as I sat at my table awaiting my order, I saw a customer walk over to a small sink and wash his hands. What? A sink for cleaning up in the restaurant's main room? Obviously, to me, it must be a copy of a restuarant south of the border. It makes sense though; why have to hike to the bathrooms to wash your hand if your here up front and have ordered. The problem is that I have never seen this in any restaurant in over 50 years of eating out at fast food or sit-down places. It could be good, in a way, IF, it was up to code.....
I have to wonder about Wickenburg's health department inspections, though, because as I watched this customer wash his hands and not realize that there was an automatic paper towel dispenser immediately above him to the right, he started shaking his recently "washed" hands violently and was doing his best to dry his hands by flinging them around and ultimately wiping his pants for the final dry.
Problem is, if you look at my photo closeup, he was flinging his hand's water within 12" of the hot sauce, tomato, and pepper smorgasbord counter.......with no plexiglass between the hand-washing sink and my potential hot sauce choices. What? Really?
How this can escape a modern town's health department inspections is mind-boggling. Hey, Wickenburg, join the Covid generation will 'ya? Droplets from customer's hands in the publicly-shared food line is a No-No. Where's Fauci when you need him?
It always has been and always will be. Put up a plexiglass divider or better yet, move the public hand-washing sink far away from your food...
Read moreI had time to think about this so...About 3months ago I had a Cabeza Burrito out in the Phoenix location. I asked what was in it. It was perfect, chopped cilantro and onions (Nothing More). Since them, I've always ordered this burrito, specifically because it has No fkn' beans and rice! IT SAYS SO ON THE MENU AS WELL. So I drive out to wickenburg every now and then . I stopped by to this location and ordered the same burrito. To my surprise it's stuffed with beans and rice. I let it go, because I was in a hurry to get back on the road and had no time to drive back and go "Karen" on these cooks, who obviously don't know their own menu. I did not eat it, instead I stopped at Maverick's and got a sandwich for the road. Last night I decided to give it another try and ordered the same burrito. I asked again what was in the burrito cause last time I was here it wasn't prepared how it was supposed to. Again I was told, chopped cilantro and onions, Wrong! Again it was rammed with frijoles y arroz! Bottom line is this place doesn't follow through with recipes nor dietary specifications, food and safety guidelines, handling and preparation. I'm a Chef with 20yrs of experience. If I had a cook in my kitchen, who did not follow my recipe to the specifications on my menu he/she would be fired, immediately. The cooks that work here are mediocre and fall short and undeserving of being call "cooks"... But oh well, what can you expect from a fastfood whitewashed americanized...
Read moreLook, this chain Mexican fast food restaurant is not going to win any culinary awards. However, the food they produce out of their shops has great flavor and seems of quality. I eat at this particular establishment about once a week, (usually on taco Tuesdays $1.49/ea) and I'm never disappointed. Another one of my favorites to get is there a la carte carne asada burrito. I always ask for them to cook the meat very well done or to make the meat a bit crispy because it changes the flavor and texture of the burrito and makes it incredibly awesome! Unfortunately, they usually do not comply with my request and have their typical soft meat. It still tastes okay, but is so much better when they make it the way I ask. I like tings spicy, so with their salsa bar available, I get to add fresh onion and jalapeno to whatever I happen to be eating and make sure to have a bit of all three of their salsas. I will say though, their drink prices are a bit out of line. As this specific location is tied to a gas station, I usually get my food order in & walk across to the gas station/convenience store and buy a 44 Oz drink from their soda fountain...
