First of all, Berrett's is not all that handicap friendly. It was a very rainy night and requiring the use of a walker with no handicap parking spots nearby, it was more than a simple chore walking to their person taking names for the wait list in the rain and through ankle deep puddles. Then, to be told, we had to walk a bit further to the next doorway where we could go in and wait for a bit. When it came time to get seated, the hostess walked us through nearly the entire restaurant and seated us at a table that was one just before the farthest table from the door in the entire place! In addition, I had to navigate my Walker between patrons and closed up the aisle way as well as servers who had large trees of food in the aisle ways. Having to walk all the way from where my car was parked through the Labyrinth of water, inconsiderate patrons, and wait staff, my patience had worn thin, but I somehow kept my dissatisfaction to myself.

The waiter was new, I suspect, as he didn't know what was in the seasonal sangria. He basically looked over my shoulder and read to me the exact same thing I was reading on the menu! Suspecting he was new, I gave him the chance to go find out before I ordered a drink. I ended up ordering the lion's head Pilsner, which was very light and was excellent with the seafood we had. The water glasses smelled and tasted a bit like bleach, as did my wife's first glass of wine. See specifically asked that the next class of wine behan wiped clean and checked before bringing it to her. It was good.

The scallops could have cooked for another 30 to 45 seconds as they were just a hair underdone. The she-crab soup was okay but lacked flavor. Some salt and pepper in a dropper tool of Sherry helped but mostly made it taste like salt, pepper, and a drop of sherry! The house cured salmon was very good, as was the cream cheese spread with which it was served. The raw, as well as the baked oysters, were wonderful!

The eggnog would have been wonderful had the bartender mixed the bourbon into the eggnog mixture. As it was, the bourbon was in the top half inch of the glass in the last half inch with pure eggnog. Had I realized this, I would have mixed it myself!

For the price paid for the five drinks, cup of soup and 5 appetizers, the experience was okay. You won't catch me there again on...

My family and I came in to eat Saturday evening after the Grand Illumination ceremony. We were seated right away which was great because we were pretty hungry after walking around in the cold for hours. I tried to order just fried shrimp and fries which I had previously but was told I had to order what the menu said which was a different option with two different shrimp types but could get both fried.

This, of course, was way more expensive. Well, I ordered this for myself and another for my son. My husband ordered fish. My son and I were supposed to have both fried with fries for one and mashed/vegetables for the other.

When mine arrived, it was not all fried, but fried and grilled. I was like whatever…I will just eat it as is. Well, the grilled shrimp were icy cold. The waiter returned, and I told him they were cold. He told us that he would take it back to the chef and hopefully not get fired. It was a really weird conversation.

Anyway, since he took my whole plate away, I was left with nothing to eat at all while the rest of my family ate. Someone else finally brought back a whole new plate. Again, the grilled shrimp were cold. I did not eat them. The sides were also cold this time as well. The waiter returned. I told him they were cold again. He used the “f” words a few times in front of my child but did not offer to take off my meal or anything. He said that he knew they were cold before, and he had even eaten my fried shrimp off of my previous returned plate because they would be tossed in the trash. I thought that was really disgusting.

This whole experience was terrible, and this was the worst meal ever. We paid $110, and it was literally awful! We will never eat here again. Save your money and head to Second Street Grille. I had shrimp there the next night at a third of the cost, and it...

I must say this was one of the WORST meals I’ve EVER had. I got the filet mignon, medium rare, which had to be sent back because it was completely cooked through. While I waited I decided to try the piece I had cut off. And let me just say.... it was the absolute worst steak I've ever had IN MY LIFE. Not only did it have the consistency of stew meat, it tasted like what I can only imagine dog food would taste like. And just to be sure I wasn't being too critical, I asked my fiancé to try it, to which he said he believed the meat was rancid. To add to our delightful evening, my fiancés scallops and salmon tasted like they were microwaved, and still raw....similar consistency to jellyfish. And the she crab soup tasted burnt. The waitress brought us bread plates but no bread until right before our meal, and it was served with a plate of oil…..no seasoning, no balsamic, just plain oil. And none of our food arrived in the correct order. Now back to the filet…. By the time my steak returned, my fiancé was already done eating and I had politely decided against eating the steak. Someone, who never introduced himself, asked what was wrong with the meal to which I explained that it was initially overcooked, tasted spoiled, and returned after my fiancé was already done eating. He suggested I take the filet home to which I politely declined. We didn't even make it out of the restaurant before experiencing terrible stomach cramps and ended our night with what I can only assume is food poisoning. I am not sure if perhaps their cook changed recently, but I would NOT EVER consider...

How did we sleep on the outstanding seafood restaurant? We've visited Williamsburg regularly for decades and finally dined at Berret's. Now we're sad we missed out on so many great meals. We started with the Seasonal White Sangria. It was bursting with flavors and fresh fruit. There was a $1 Oyster special, which we happily indulged in. We had a choice of 2 types of oysters. We did 6 of each raw, and 3 of each roasted. Simply outstanding. Fresh and scrubbed perfectly presented with what I suspect is housemade cocktail sauce and the best Mignonette Sauce I've ever had that was full minced shallots. We asked our server about 2 appetizer options we spotted, and he hands down pointed us to the Southern Fried Green Tomato Stack it was so delicious, and the creamy pimento cheese surprisingly worked beautifully. Our dinner choices were The Original Blue Plate, which included a choice of shecrab soup or house salad, beautiful backfin crab cake, baked oysters Rockefeller & shrimp. All perfectly cooked and delicious. I chose the She-crab soup, which was finished tableside with a splash of Sherry. Crispy Grouper with shrimp, asparagus over cheesy grits with a creamy lemon caper sauce. Note: Both entrees included several skewered shrimp. All of them were perfectly cooked tender, and the tail shells released easily. Perfection. The staff was attentive, and our server was engaging and efficient. The dining rooms are simple and cozy. We can not wait to visit again.

We went back to this restaurant two days in a row because of the raw oyster. I never cared for raw oyster until I tried the raw oysters here. We ordered both James and York oyster along with Rockefeller and fried ones. If you want to try the authentic and original taste of the oysters, I will recommend just order the raw ones. The Rockefeller and fried oysters were not that different than other restaurants. Between James and York, I personally like the James ones. It’s smaller but sweeter. We also ordered their crab cakes and shrimp as well as a seafood combo. The crab cake was excellent and all the seafood were very fresh and tasty. We were also very impressed by their apple cobbler with ice cream on top. The one dollar raw oyster special cannot be beat. This really is the best place to try raw oyster and an excellent place for seafood. The music in the waiting area also added a really nice touch to the atmosphere. Because we were sitting at the outside tent, we got to enjoy the music for a while. Not sure how it feels like inside the restaurant. The server was very attentive, so were most of the staff there. Giving that this was at the toursy area of Williamsburg, I didn’t know about the quality of the restaurant at first. After I’ve been there twice, I feel very comfortable of recommending it to everyone.
