Unfortunately, I can only talk about my experience here. Experience has made me weary about restaurants with the word "authentic" in their tag lines. Usually they disappoint. This time it did. You have to wait to be seated, but there are no signs that tell you that, so we sat ourselves. Since they were understaffed that morning after the 4th of July ( one server) we had to get the menus ourselves, which isn't a big deal. This girl tried her best with that morning rush of locals and vacationers. My personal test for "mexican" food restaurants is to order chilaquiles. Kinda like when you go to a diner and order chicken fried steak, because they're usually pretty good. Since I've eaten really good chilaquiles in Mexico and some good ones in Houston, you have standards. In this case it was extremely disappointing. They were basically fritos with some sort of non spicy dark sauce? that was clumped on top of it. They were so underwhelming that I ordered 4 small cups of their actually spicy red sauce and poured it on top of this. That red sauce made me almost forget what I had ordered. My family had migas, pancakes and a quesadilla? (this quesadilla was also pretty sad) that they thought was adequate. The best thing I had for breakfast was the 2 Jarritos pops that were in the fridge. I learned my personal culinary lesson there. But , if you're the only show in town and ppl haven't had the exposure to the authentic thing, like the saying goes " In the land of the blind, the...
Read moreUpdate 7/30/2023 The food was really good but the salsa was not. It was more like chalula.
The carne guisada was tasty and tender. The barbacoa tasted good too and was not too greasy. The egg tacos were good too and all of the tacos had plenty of fillings. Now the bad.
We went through the drive thru and when we got to the window the girl asked if we had called in our order. I said no, so she looked behind my car to see nobody behind me in line. I asked, you're not going to take my order because I didn't call it in?
She pointed to a handwritten sign on the window and said "you are supposed to call in your order." I said that is the first time I have seen that sign. It has been a while since we ate there. She took my order and then told me to park in the back. They make the food when it is ordered and it can take a while evidently. Great! Made to order food, but that doesn't mean you have to be rude about it. I then asked her what the number was because it was not on the sign.
The inside of the restaurant is usually clean but it is an old building and not fancy at all. *
I would like to give them 4 stars 🌟 but it's just not a 4 star restaurant. With that said they are really nice and the food was pretty good...
Read moreI’m going to give it 2 stars. It comes with a warning! I ordered enchiladas because I read the menu and because the local newspaper has had them voted year after year for the best enchiladas or Tex-Mex by the locals. Nowhere on the menu did it say that they were soggy, covered in onions and cooked tomatoes with baked white cheese hard on the top. It said ranchera sauce and white queso. I returned the meal for fajitas (steak) again they were served with grilled/cooked tomatoes after I said please don’t cook them. Pico is usually served cold and refreshing. However, fajitas were excellent!!! Until I got the bill being charged for both! If I was being charged for both, I would have kept the meat, beans and rice from that plate for my fajitas. No warning! When I went to pay my bill the waitress ducked into the bathroom so she didn’t have to see when I was surprised with a bill for both meals! Really??? Answer, “Yea! I’m sorry! I paid and left! Won’t be returning. If you go, make sure you like what you ordered and get what the menu said because I didn’t get what the menu said...
