My wife and I were looking for a restaurant we hadn’t visited and decided to go to The Chateau in Woburn, MA. Without a doubt, it was one of the worst decisions we ever made. Let’s begin with the parking lot. It had snowed 24 hours earlier and the lot had not been plowed or sanded and was extremely icy. Secondly, we were greeted and seated by a young lady who appeared to be having a bad day as she escorted us to our table and walked away without saying a word. Thirdly, while placing my order, the server asked me what I wanted for side dishes. I asked what was available and she opened the menu and said, “There are so many, I can’t remember them all.” After we placed our orders of chicken parmigiana for my wife and steak tips with corn and mashed potatoes for me, we waited longer than people usually wait for their meals at other establishments which was frustrating because the restaurant was only half full. While we waited, the people sitting in the booth behind me, sent their food back to the kitchen because it was cold when they received it. Our food finally arrived and, you guessed it, my corn and potatoes were cold. The steak tips were lukewarm. My wife’s chicken parmigiana had the appearance of what is served in middle school cafeterias (I was a substitute teacher in a middle school for six years. I’ve had my share of bad chicken parmigiana). It was cold also. The chicken not only looked like it was a frozen patty before being cooked, it tasted like it as well. The cheese tasted like it came wrapped in cellophane paper before being placed on the chicken and the spaghetti sauce looked and tasted like it came out of a jar. For obvious reasons, my wife decided not to eat her dinner. The server took my wife’s plate back to the kitchen and the manager came out to ask what was wrong with our order. When my wife explained why she could not eat the food, the manager told her that the chicken had been breaded on the premises. That was, and still is, very hard to believe. The manger took my plate back to the kitchen to “replace” my corn and potatoes. They were warm when he brought the plate back but it didn’t improve the bland taste of either. I paid for my meal which is vastly overpriced at $27.99 considering the poor quality. As we left, five staff members were standing in an area near the door and not one person acknowledged us as we left which is okay because we have no...
Read moreI really wanted to like this place. The interior is well done and charming. Not too dark, but not as bright as a fast food restaurant. The hostess person was lovely and professional. However the service was a bit 'disconnected'. Food was dropped at the table, and our server took off. Gone before I could ask for any additional 'anything'. Pepper shaker was not only completely empty... but wasn't the cleanest inside either. I wouldn't expect someone from the local funeral home, or hardware store to notice things like this, because this isn't what they do for a living... but for the server, whose livelihood depends on it... it's not only an issue of service, but sanitation. Mise en place is everything. Consciousness is your most valuable tool. The biggest disappointment was the food. Don't misunderstand,, it wasn't bad. But incredibly average. The spaghetti was perfectly al dente, but the red sauce was Bland, and seasoning free. It looked, and tasted as though it came straight from a jar. It was surprising, because this is one of the easiest things to get right in Italian cuisine. My business associate said pretty much the same thing - It's ok... but not anywhere near great. The Chateau is not irredeemable. This could be fixed easily. Better training for the servers.. To Engage.... and a consultant to offer some perspective in the kitchen. If Management isn't getting out of that restaurant and going out into the real world at least twice a month to try different Italian and Mediterranean restaurants for perspective, they're doing their store and people a great disservice. Best of luck, guys... You...
Read moreI went in as a woman alone to have a meal after work. This doesn’t deserve any stars! I went into the bar looking for a seat there was one available but a woman was standing at the bar blocking the seat and had all her belongings on another seat with a child standing next to her with the child peering over the bar. I asked if the empty seat was taken she said no but she had it blocked. Meanwhile the female bartender was serving her a drink with her young child right there at the bar. She expected me to keep waiting then her friends walked up and got drinks children in the bar. I saw a seat open up so turned to the woman and said forget it. I complained to the bartender she was blocking a seat and young children are not allowed in bars she continued to wait on her. I was eating she was still there and had the nerve to tap me on the shoulder stating you need to have patience well I told her to not touch me get the f-@:k away she continued to bother me and stated laughing I see your alone things escalated finally she walked off still flapping her mouth the manager came out did very little. The woman bartender didn’t have the courtesy to apologize nor take my payment for the bill. Someone else did I did tip didn’t eat half of my meal nor alcoholic beverage waste of 40.00 dollars plus tip. Spoke to the manager again he didn’t even offer to comp the meal never again will I or my friends go there! Point illegal for kids to be at the bar and for a mother to be standing drinking kid in tow! Methuen one way better no kids at the bar!! Shame on...
