I love Mexican food, and coming from Texas I am use to Texas Mex. I normally taste the salsa before I place orders. Something my best friend who is Hispanic taught. It normally will tell you about the upcoming meal you are going to order. It was okay..
I love giving good reviews and I am big on tipping my waitress or waiters $10 to $20 and thats on very very small orders just because, but today was not the case. The manager cost the waiter Angel a good tip the food was not good as I thought it would have been.
I asked for a Margarita and I got it, but there was something in the sugar that was on the rim, it looked like a small bug after I sipped from the straw, then it was entirely to strong with cheap tequila. (I wasnt expecting anything spectacular due to price) I changed the drink to a wine. Then the tamales that I ordered were very huge and soggy with very little meat. By this time Angel called the manager over for me and I told him my problem, the young slender Mgr told me that he never changes the alcohol but he did this time and he couldn't change anything else. What the h*ll? (I took two small sip glass still tipping over with margarita)
I informed him I will tip the waiter for being a hassle. My best friends are Hispanic and my husband is Cuban. With this being said I love my Spanish people, but this restaurant gave me a bad taste to my mouth.
The restrooms are unclean from not proper cleaning that holds a odor of urine.
By the way Angel the waiter is a very sweet person!

Read moreI honestly HATE To Leave this review but I feel I have to after this experience. Let me first start by saying I’ve been coming here for YEARS. This experience was my last one as I have decided we will no longer be coming here & I’m very sad having to say that as I’ve had SUCH GOOD Experiences in the past. I see they have recently renovated and that is definitely a bonus for them. My husband and I and our nephew went for family dinner and my husband and I ordered margaritas. I’m not huge on drinking but a margarita isn’t so bad after a tough day. I ordered a mango margarita and there was 0 flavor besides the tequila. Now that may be great for those who like strong alcohol so props to them! But unfortunately for me, too much makes me sick so I tried to send it back and get a refund. Instead the waiter takes my drink and dumps more mango into it making it more watery and gives it back asking me to try that. Still 0 flavor besides alcohol lol. So finally we are able to give it back. I ordered carnitas and the carnitas there have always been SOOOO Good. This time it was so disgusting and vile. It was old and shriveled up and much like to margarita, had ZERO Flavor. The rice was alright but the beans were very bitter. The only good thing we had honestly was the cheese dip. I guess you can screw up on that so much. The entire experience was awful for all of us so we as a family decided we will no longer support Monterrey’s like we have for so many years....
Read moreI haven't had a lot of luck looking for a good Mexican restaurant in Cherokee County. But, the food here definitely works for me. I haven't dined in, so I'm not weighing in on anything but the food with my 5 stars. I should be clear, I don't know the difference between "authentic" Mexican cuisine and "Tex Mex". But, either way this is one of two places I'll order from for that style of food, as far as full blown restaurants go. Location is hard to spot from the street, listen to your GPS, if you're coming off of 575, yeah, it's that very long left turn lane (no left on yellow there, the cops out here are wild and there's probably one looking at you). Coming from the other way, it's that right, after the Waffle House, then on your left.. From the road it's hidden behind a car wash that takes up the entire corner. As well, the stip mall/shopping center looks mostly empty.. (yes, all those cars are for this restaurant.. well, and the rental car place.. but nobody's visiting the other stores). Check it, I recommend it. Prices are fair, right around what you're probably used to. Everything closes at like dusk in Cherokee, but they're open about an hour later. There's some outdoor patio seating and no real foot traffic back there. So,...
