Hoian som & Bingsu — Restaurant in Hội An

Came here with a craving for Bingsu and left a little underwhelmed.

I ordered the mango and watermelon bingsuu which only comes in Medium and Large, I ordered the Medium.

The place was filled with Koreans and only Koreans at the time, so I expected it to be at least a decent shop. (You go where the locals go, as the saying goes)

Upon receiving my bingsu I noticed how large the mango was cut. The cuts were of equivalent size to 2 to 3 pieces of mango. The mango itself also tasted old? Which I didn't expect either.

The ice they used was flavourless and very milky. There was no mango nor watermelon ice-cream on top, it actually tasted like a lemon/vanilla mix.

With all the bingsu's I have had in several different countries in Asia I have never received my watermelon with seeds. I am not sure if I was lucky in all other shops before or if this is the Vietnamese standard of it. Either way, it put me off a little bit with the texture differences, eating and spitting out the seeds.

The shop has two floors. The second floor is quite small but still has 4 tables where you can sit at. The toilet is also upstairs and available for guests.

The lady behind the counter was kind when she took my order and service was relatively quick considering how extremely busy they were at the time I arrived.

For me, this experience eating bingsu here was very underwhelming. I personally will not go here again for Bingsu.

They do however sell other products as well, this is a good place to stop if you have kids and the location is convenient.

Mango watermelon M-size...

Their bingsu's were alright, but it wasn't very evenly spread. The oreos were only on the surface, and nothing throughout the middle, leaving me with just shaved ice to eat.

The smoothies were definitely worth it (I recommend a mango smoothie, I forgot to take a photo unfortunately).

I'm unsure about the sodas as I didn't have one, however, my friend said that the soda wasn't the greatest, and it was more a juice than a soda.

Also a little overpriced, but worth going to if you need something to cool you down in the...

Excellent mango bingsu - mango was very tasty, shaved ice was great too, and served in good quantity for the price. Only feedback I would have is that vanilla ice cream is a bit industrial with artificial flavor. Atmosphere is relatively average, with very little chairs and tables so it’s not very comfortable to sit there, but this remains overall a great experience thanks to the quality of the food.
