All Day Bánh Mì - Serving History in Every Bite - Hoi An — Restaurant in Hội An

When we headed to the All Day Banh Mi restaurant it was around 9pm, which is usually the time for dessert so we decided to order a burnt cheesecake, a crispy pastry with cream in the middle and a hot chocolate. The food didn’t take long to arrive but the food wasn’t fresh at all but boxed up in containers. That wasn’t that bad but when we opened the cheesecakes, they were simply regular cheesecakes; not burnt in the slightest and were smaller than the palm of a two year old’s hand. We thought oh well no big deal and took a taste of the food. The cheesecake was awfully crumbly and tasted horrible to the point where I felt like I was forcing myself to eat it. The crispy pastry with cream was soggy and wet. I thought ok well at least I have the hot chocolate to save the day. Well I thought wrong. The hot chocolate was first of all, half full and second of all so bitter that it made me shudder. It left my tongue dry and gross. The only thing was made the experience slightly pleasant was the nice workers and the atmosphere. I wish I was able to take photos of all the food to show you how horrible it was. Do not come here....

The All Day Banh Mi is high on atmosphere and beautiful river views. Located in one of Hoi An's signature villa-like buildings, and in Hoi An's signature colours - lemon yellow walls, deep brown wood ceiling, rust-coloured floor tiles - the restaurant has a cheerful, high-energy ambience. The warm lighting and mood music on the excellent sound system adds to the ambience. The wooden, adobe and shades of these in the interiors with period pictures on the walls, makes this an enchanting place in ultra-enchanting Hoi An to enjoy a beverage, hot or cold, with a stuffed baguette. Unfortunately, there's nothing for vegetarians in the small range of stuffed baguettes, an egg and cheese one is closest to anything vegetarian. Never mind, I ordered a Ca Phé Sûa Dá and Double Flan Cake, to soak in the beautiful ambience and the riverside views through the bougainvillea-framed shop entrance. Both were nice, the flan cake came soaked in an iced espresso shot. I enjoyed the ambience so much that I ordered a Vietnamese White Coffee (Bąc Xiù), an even more...

First, I must say. In most cases I am very respectful and very positive towards Vietnamese restaurants and food stalls, even when they do not always fully justify their reputation. This restaurant in this overly touristy town, disappoints on every possible level. Bland food, dry bun filling, few spices, no special sauces, stingy filling. Inside the restaurant it is hot as hell with diners sitting on small stools without backrests. Despite everything, it seems that Westerners are attracted to this place for two main reasons: first, the food is cheap compared to other restaurants in the area second, typical Westerners do not really know the value of spicy and tasty food. For example, bland English food, empty Scandinavian food, or the Australian template of toast with avocado for example.. Remember my polite Westerners, cheap is expensive....
