Back in Hoi An for the weekend – haven’t darkened its door in over a year. First port of call? Hill Station, obviously. Place is still standing proud, hasn’t been tarted up or ruined, which is more than you can say for half the joints round here.
They’ve rejigged things though – all the taps now live in a little air-conned room. Lovely touch, pint in one hand, free refrigeration in the other. The old tap space? Gone. Now a tailor’s. Because clearly Hoi An was in desperate need of yet another shop flogging suits no one asked for.
Decided to push the boat out with a cheese platter. Cheese, in Southeast Asia! Thought I’d have more luck finding a tailor shop closing in Hoi An, but no, they actually pulled it off. Proper bit of indulgence, that.
Beer list does the job. Heart of Darkness still the star of the show. Shame their Da Nang taproom’s been shut. I wandered up the other day on a recommendation, but it's all boarded over. Hopefully it’s not them going under, as they’re about the only ones round here brewing beer you’d actually go back for.
So, Hill Station – still cracking, still one of my favourite haunts in Hoi An. Go for the beer, stay for the cheese, and if you leave with a new three-piece suit, don’t say I...

Wonderful old French colonial building that is now a bar, delicatessen venue..
Here, they serve various wines, craft beers , cheeses, and meats..
Two floors of space that is just wonderful in my opinion..
The staff are genuinely extremely pleasant, caring, and attentive ..
Certainly not in an overly way, just there when you need them..
The owners have now also added a side area next door to create a winery cellar where wines are available to purchase by the bottle if you so desire..
I like that front window experience of just sitting there and watching the world go by as I enjoy some wine or the stout beer was very nice and not heaving...
An unassuming place, you will walk past it very easily if not looking for it..
Absolutely no pressure from anyone to go in... No member of staff outside trying to usher you in...
If you would like a place to enjoy a drink and some cheese/ meats , and just chill and chat, then I definitely recommend you give this business some of...
Read moreI had an excellent afternoon here snacking on their cheese and charcuterie plate and a few glasses of wine. You choose your own meats and cheeses from a nice little selection in their deli. I was alone so I snacked and read a book, but this would be a great place to meet up with a friend or two. I hear great things about the beer they carry, though I didn't get around to it as I was plenty boozy from my wine. The bread, which I found they make themselves, was served warm and was excellent, especially the white. As much as the charm just oozes from the interior, I opted to sit at one of the outdoor tables next to (but not on) the sidewalk. Happy hour got me one of my glasses of wine for free (also includes beer and other drinks). The rest of the menu looked nice and I hope to try it on a future visit to Hoi An. Whether you're looking for a nice coffee break, a meal, or a place to meet up for drinks, I think this place is...
