On behalf of myself, my friends Kate and Daniel and JP and my many the other friends over the last almost 20 years who attended movies there with me, we all want to acknowledge and thank EVERY SINGLE EMPLOYEE of Melbourne Central Hoyts Cinemas for the top notch service both at the concession stand and cinema theatre as well as an always comfortable top notch viewing experience for every movie I have ever watched there (by myself, with Kate abs Daniel and JP and many, many other friends over these last almost 20 years) all the way back to me watching my first ever movie there in the mid to late 2000s (so sorry can't remember exactly). You ALL deserve to be very highly commended! Kate, Daniel, JP, my various other friends and I can't recommend Melbourne Central Hoyts Cinemas highly enough to all movie lovers. I am so sorry to take almost 20 years to give a Google review (or whatever avenue of reviewing a cinema that was available before Google reviews existed).
So sorry too to absolutely everyone who worked at Melbourne Central Hoyts (be it at the concession stand, ticket scanning check or the cinema theatre itself) to only post my Google review just over 3 weeks after Kate, Daniel, JP and I saw the 29/09/2024 3:45pm Xtremescreen session of Transformers One...THANK YOU so much to each and every single one of you for the super nice service and all the super awesome effort you all made to make our Transformers One experience absolutely AMAZING in terms of comfort as well as sound and visuals that took the already absolutely INCREDIBLE movie that is Transformers One to a whole new viewing level! We all super appreciate it! The absolutely STUNNING statue of Transformers One character Bumblebee we saw on our way to seeing Transformers One is a beautiful lovely touch too! That's why watching movies at Melbourne Central Hoyts Village Cinemas is the FAVOURITE social activity for Kate, Daniel, JP and I to partake in together each time we meet up in...

Guys you are located in the middle of the city and people do not have the luxury of carrying everything home or putting it in their cars like in a suburb. If you want to implement rules like that, make lockers available and people will be more happy to co-operate.
Would you like people to come watch a movie in the middle of their day or not? Then why do you make it so difficult to do so?
If I have to go home to put things down before coming back out for a movie, I'll travel to somewhere where the facilities are much better instead of going for convenience - because it's no longer convenient duh. The only thing you have going for you is your location.
Your staff are rude and do not know how to handle complaints without raising their voices.
The cinema is rundown and quite filthy. Staff say it's because they only have 5 minutes to clean. Hey I guess your popcorn is more of a problem than the outside food you keep complaining is a problem for your venue. We came in 5mins before start and it was strewn with rubbish.
We got called to go out so they could clean and it was still messy and sticky when they were done. The seats are stained and gross. My 6 year old could do a better job cleaning her room than your paid staff.
Folks watching movies here is an immense ripoff, just go to one slightly further away and enjoy proper service and environment for your full...
Read moreMy husband and I went in to watch Blink Twice, and the only thing blinking twice in that theatre were my eyes, out of sheer disbelief. And, because the universe has a sense of humour, we visited on none other than Friday the 13th. Yes, really. If ever there was a day for things to go terribly wrong, this was it.
The lobby had a vague popcorn smell, overpowered by a mystery odour. Was it damp carpet? A mouse nest? Hard to say, but we were already off to a thrilling start.
Then came the highlight: the screening room (cinema 5 in case you're interested). Sticky floors, smelly dirty seats that looked like they'd been chewed on (by patrons or rodents? You decide), and yes, the undeniable presence of MICE. Not one, not two—oh no—this was a full-on furry reunion. There we were, watching Blink Twice, while a brave little mouse ran across the aisle as if it had VIP access.
Apparently, the staff had known about this rodent rave for a day and were still waiting on pest control. But instead of closing down, they chose to provide what was, no doubt, the most interactive movie experience of my life. Between dodging mice and wondering if the smell was coming from the screen or the seats, it was hard to focus on the plot.
At least we got a refund. Thank fully in the form of a voucher for any Hoyts, as I won't be returning to Melbourne Central. So blink twice if you need a refund, and run if you ever find yourself...
