Probably my favorite of the UNESCO sites in Santo Domingo. It is not as grand or obvious as some of the others. It is unassuming, tucked into a corner really. You could easily miss it if you did not know to go look for it. There was a group of high school kids hanging out there when I went. They were all very respectful. They had no idea that I speak Spanish, but they were being polite and simply hanging out in the ancient ruins. It created an interesting tableau of contrast- the old world with the new. It took us almost an entire day to see so many "first things" in the New world, here in SD's Zona Colonial. This first hospital was adjoined by a small Church and is located in the center of the old town, 5 min from the San Francisco "first Monastery". The hospital is further ruined with pigeons waste, so look up and down while you're...
