Supermercados Nacional — Attraction in Santo Domingo

Tourists be on the lookout when you shop here!!! There are people who meet up outside the shop and pretend to need help. However they plan with shop management to take your money. I bought items to help a guy whom I ran into outside the store. However, after paying for everything, he returned the items and split the money with the managers. They basically made a joke of it after I paid for everything thinking I was trying to help. Two other people from the hotel had similar experiences. From a tourist perspective, good spot to grab coffee, rum, mamajuana, and snack at fair prices. (Example: 8 ounce Santo Domingo coffee was on special for $167 as compared to $300+ at souvenir shops)

Also multiple cajero automatico (ATM) from different banks. The Scotiabank machine charged $300 fee but has bills as small as $100 which is beneficial. It is a very classic supermarket. You will find everything you need for your grocery shopping here . The decor is classic, towards the vintage style, not as modern as other supermarkets in other locations It is small as well.

For tourist, they will enjoy coming here as Supermercado Nacional is a tradition in Dominican Republic and they might purchase traditional products as our "dulces de leche", "coconut candies" or the delicious "croquettes de guayaba".
