Although this is a very nice place, I can't say the same for the service. I've been to many nice looking places but what always makes the difference and makes me want to come back is the service, its all about the experience. I spent a good 15 minutes waiting for a bottle of water that I ordered but had to get up and get it myself. When the waiter saw me by the bar he apologized and said that there were too mich clients (you can see from my picture that was not the case) Customer service is something most places lack in the Dominican Republic. It is sad and hard to say bit it's true. I expressed my discomfort to the waiter and mentioned that this was my first time, that I had heard nice things about this place but I wasn't having a good time. He apologized again and said that they were short staffed that night. I think I didn't choose the best day to visit Mamey, I guess I'll have to come back for a...
Read moreWe came on a Sunday night after dinner. Primarily we were looking for a dessert spot but decided to check this highly rated venue.
This certainly did not disappoint. We entered by only seeing a small “Mamey” signage and walked through an entryway which still wasn’t the actual café yet. It was dark, so it had a very mysterious feel to it.
Before us, was a brightly lit art gallery and then we entered this secret garden after making a sharp left.
Wow! It was beautiful with small groups of young folks having all types of drinks. It felt super creative, exclusive, and chill. The music was dope. The workers were cool. We were surrounded by nature of exotic plants. I wish I had something like this in NY!
We ordered a cappuccino and chinola juice. Both were great. No foods, but it was a perfect joint to unwind after a big...
Read moreThis place is such a treat! Part bookstore/library, part art gallery and part cafe you could easily lose yourself here for a wonderful couple of hours. The outside is unassuming but the minute you step inside the little ante chamber full of charming plants its as if you've entered a different world. Walk inside and you're in a little hallway with a display of local artists' works and a gorgeous courtyard to the left. They also have an indoor reading room which looked super chic and comfortable. The cafe/bar has a couple of local craft beers on tap in addition to coffee and cocktails. They have more open seating in the backyard. The vibe of this place is so incredibly peaceful and charming that I'd say its a must visit when in the colonial zone of...
