Read moreI am so glad we found El Buho Cafe! It became a favorite place to go during our visit. I have some many good things to say I made a list: The coffee was our favorite in the area. The layout makes the best use of the climate with seating around and in an enclosed courtyard in addition to indoor seating. There is a sun cover to diffuse the light and fans to keep you cool while in the semi-enclosed and outdoor area, of course! I ended up taking pictures of everyone in my group in front of the beautiful wall of plants in the courtyard - we were so impressed, I told my local photographer friend about the cafe! -The staff were friendly and attentive. The owners are both lovely and happy to tell the interesting history of the place, make food and local recommendations, etc. We came back several times and even worked from the cafe - everyone was fantastic and accommodating and the cafe really was a wonderful place to relax, eat and work. We even had to make a special trip just before heading to the airport - had have one more coffee and say goodbye! We expect to be back in Santo Domingo this time next year and fully expect the now new Cafe Buho to be a...
Read moreEdit: Hi there - I was there and ate there on Feb 17th. I was a little quick with my review, so I didn't go into detail. I'll describe my thoughts here:
the cevieche wasn't inedible. It was the best part of the meal, but the flavor was definitely muted
the burrito was very dry and the meat was tough and lacked flavor, making it very difficult to eat. Salt was also missing
the fried fish and shrimp dish was what I liked the least. This too lacked a lot of flavor and the fish and shrimp were dry on the inside. The passion fruit sauce tasted nice on its own but did not work with the fried fish. The fried fish needed something acidic to cut the heaviness of the dish. Also, again, this dish was also under salted. Finally, we did not like how all the meats were combined like that, but that might have been a misunderstanding on our part
Apologies for not saying something. This was our first day this city. It was late, we were tired and we did not know how to explain these issues in Spanish.
That said my review stands that your food needs to be improved. If you'd like to talk on the phone, I'm...
