Little red train from Chamonix centre to Montenvers for visiting the Mer de Glace. Train ticket includes the cable car to get to the steps. Currently about 500 steps to walk down from the cable car to the ice cave. A new station is being constructed to reduce this in future. Our 5 and 7 year olds tackled the steps no problem, the distraction of counting, flat sections and opportunity to stop if needed made it fun for them. Stairs and cave have grippy matting so trainers were fine in summer. We wore layers but the exertion and summer sun meant we were quite warm, even in the cave. Personally didn't need gloves. Interesting to observe the year markers along the steps to show where the glacier was in previous years. Gift shop at Montenvers has nice souvenirs and there is a cafe and toilets there too. We bought tickets on the day and queue was minimal, just waiting for the train departure time took 20 minutes. Spent 3 hours...

The journey on the little red train from Chamonix centre to Montenvers for visiting the Mer de Glace was a delightful experience. The train ticket includes the cable car to access the steps leading to the glacier. Despite the approximately 500 steps down from the cable car to the ice cave, the experience was manageable, especially with layers to adjust to the varying temperatures. Surprisingly, even in the cave, the summer sun kept us quite warm, making gloves unnecessary for me. The year markers along the steps, depicting the glacier's retreat over time, provided a thought-provoking perspective. The gift shop at Montenvers offered nice souvenirs, and amenities like a cafe and toilets were convenient. Purchasing tickets on the day was hassle-free, with minimal queuing, although waiting for the train departure took around 20 minutes. In total, the round trip took us about 3 hours, making it a worthwhile and...

A heartfelt THANK YOU to Melina, the medical staff at the station, for her exceptional professionalism, care, and support when my mom fell and broke her arm near the ice cave. Melina demonstrated incredible compassion and efficiency from the moment we arrived at the mountain station. She conducted an immediate medical assessment and swiftly arranged for an ambulance to transport us to the hospital upon our return to Chamonix. Throughout the entire process, Melina provided constant reassurance and comfort to my mom, alleviating her pain and anxiety. We are deeply grateful for Melina's expertise and kindness, which made a significant difference during a challenging time. Melina, you are...

Montenvers Train Chamonix Station: A Journey to the Alps Montenvers Train Chamonix Station is the gateway to one of the most breathtaking landscapes in the French Alps. A scenic train ride takes visitors up to the Mer de Glace, a massive glacier that is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. At the summit, visitors can explore the Ice Grotto, a man-made tunnel carved into the glacier, or simply marvel at the stunning panoramic views of the surrounding mountains and valleys. The Montenvers Train Chamonix Station offers a truly unforgettable experience for nature lovers and adventure seekers alike.
