We booked tickets for taking the cable cars to "Aguille du Midi" with Mont Blanc Natural Resort. The views are stunning and the experience itself would be completely fine in normal times.
HOWEVER, in the midst of the pandemic I would consider the experience risky for at-risk people, which is why I give a 1-Star rating. I am not a medical professional, but I would like to share our experience, so particularly at-risk people can make an informed decision:
For the rides up and down you will be in the cable cars at max. capacity, meaning absolutely no distance between people/ person next to person (but windows of the cable cars are open and people wear masks). Before the ride down, you will wait for approx. 30-45 Min. in small rooms with person next to person again (staff will ask you to get close to each other in the waiting area; this time no windows open with quiet a few people not wearing masks as they feel sick from the altitude). There were a few older people that were complaining about the distance not being kept but nothing happened.
With this many tourists coming from everywhere (incl. outside of Europe), no testing, no checks for negative tests nor proof of vaccination, I would not bring any at-risk people from my family here and if I hadn't been fully vaccinated I would've felt very...
Read moreThe train ride was fun and beautiful. Definitely worth it to see the glacier before it disappears further. The ice cave was phenomenal and educational. Very enjoyable experience. We did Aiguille du Midi early the next morning. With a snow storm going the opening of the cable car was delayed, which was understandable as safety is always the top priority. However we found the communication to be a bit lacking. Things seemed very chaotic. The group numbers and waiting times on the display board weren't reliable, and we tended to rely on the word of mouth around the groups. (As in which group had gone in and which was next.) There was no announcements on any loudspeaker and when it was our turn we weren't even notified and had to ask the staff at the entrance to find out. We managed to get up to Aiguille du Midi but then found that Step into the Void was closed. The snow covered mountain was beautiful though and the staff kindly directed where we could step out to take photos. It turned out to be both amazing and disappointing. Weather can't be controlled but communication could be improved. If you plan to go up to Step into the Void, be prepared to be disappointed if luck doesn't come your way. Advisable to plan the two activities on...
Read moreOne of the worst run ski resorts I have visited. The lift infrastructure needs updating and is well behind other premier ski resorts. They are woefully understaffed, both on the mountain but also on the transport services. In busy periods you are looking at a 30 min or one hour wait for a bus. The train only runs every hour. On popular fields like Le Tour or Brevent, it can take 30 to 50 mins to get on the bottom Gondola. You will get to one lift that is run smoothly then on the next run, the 6 person lift will be leaving with only 2 or 3 people on it each time. So you wait 35 mins to get up for another run. The staff try to do their best and are helpful, it's clear that management are the issue.
Some of the ski runs were good but others were poor. I would rate Japan as significantly better, or North America. For value for money, nearly anywhere would be better. I met a lot of locals who said that the Mont Blanc company are trying to reap the profits before climate change means there is no ski season. Maybe that's true, or maybe they are just incompetent, I don't know. They will reap...
