Unfortunately hugely disappointed!!!

This was my second visit and I had high hopes and was really looking forward to a great 1h relaxing and cleansing moment.

I had the Ali Mama Hammam €55.

Last time I was here was in beginning of June and after a long summer of sun, sea and the ever present pollution in the air, my skin was in real need for a good scrub. But I didn't receive that. (I had even said to the therapist that took care of me, that I would like him to scrub my skin extra hard and he said ok).

The foam massage after was not professional performed either and the whole experience just felt bad.

When I was asked if I wanted to have conditioner in my hair after him washing it, he couldn't have put in much, since my hair felt very rough, so I had trouble after when trying to comb it.

I also had to stay a few minutes longer in the steam room area, AFTER THE TREATMENT, to try and remove old skin that was still left on my skin, with my nails!!! This has never happened to me before, and I have been to several hamams both in Athens and abroad. I didn't feel as clean as aspected when you've just had a hamam!

Also, despite all the above, what I didn't appreciated at all, even the first time I was here, is that the changing rooms are tiny, and the area for dry blow your hair, put body lotion on your skin, put make up on etc, is in a corridor, used by not only male and female guests, but also the staff, who has some kind of storage room there?!!! I felt very exposed!

Finally, I've never felt so watched before!

I mean, common, every step I took, someone from the staff was there, checking on me, as if to see if I was "behaving"!!!

Never ever again will I set my foot here!!!

When telling the two receptionists about my bad experience, they just felt very sorry for me, and offered a €5 discount (which I hadn't asked for btw) but after they had listened to my critic, you would perhaps think they would had offered me a higher discount or just skip it totally.

What is €5 really?

How could that possible make me feel better?

Thanks for nothing Hammam...

Overall experience: not worth it. The staff is polite and accommodating, however didn't provide the information I needed to know prior to my appointment. I booked weeks in advance, but only when I arrived I was given to sign a paper where it said that they recommend e.g. not to have any food for the last 4hrs and other similar precautions. Guys, you should inform about these things in advance. And it's not that they didn't have the chance to. They asked me over the phone if it was my first time at a hammam and I said yes, yet still they didn't inform me about anything, just : bring a bathing suit + flip flops.

Privacy issues- The Hammam room is connected with the massage room with a huge gap that doesn't have any visual separation. So while I was having my massage, the people at the hammam could see everything and I felt exposed. The owner must create some sort of separation between the rooms, as currently it's inappropriate and certainly not relaxing knowing other people in the hammam have visual contact.

Ali-Mama service- The supposedly 30' massage service after the hammam was technically combined with the hammam (foaming-bathing), so the actual massage time was no more than 15'. I'd rather book a full massage session for the same price next time, than this. Also, keep in mind that you might run into more people in the hammam room. In my case 2 ladies wouldn't stop chattering, which ok, good for them, but for me made it impossible to relax. Plus, even though supposedly hair conditioning was used during hammam, it was almost impossible to untangle my hair later. I would've brought my own hair product + brush if I knew this was going to be the case.

Accommodations-nothing special. The tea and the loukoumi was a nice touch, but other than that no space has any privacy, except the locker rooms and WC.

Based on my total experience, I honestly don't understand why would anyone do hammam in general, and especially why this place has so many...

Please be very cautious if youre a couple. Went there yesterday and what we went through was the most unprofessional experience we ever had. The good: The facilities are great, the experience is unique and the place is very well kept together. The bad: The staff; From the moment we went in the masseur locked his gaze on my girlfriend, completely disregarded my presence entirely and when we went for the massage part it became quite awful as we saw that: the person who massaged my girl, was invasive and was not really massaging her, more like caressing her, kept trying to do small talk, kept touching in places that the guy who was massaging me wouldnt even bother and to top it all of when she tried to adjust her top he, without any mention put his hands and started meddling with her bra "trying to help". At that point she had to literally pull his hands away but the person didnt stop there. Once i was done (we started at the same time) he kept her for 4-5 mins extra alone to complete his session. Now there are many more small things that happened throughout the experience and im open if the management would like to reach out for me to explain in detail the entire experience, bottom line is we realised what exactly had happened afterwards when we were discussing it and saw how different the massage/ approach and feeling was even though we were 2 meters appart. If youre a couple thinking to enrich your experience and bond, do not choose this place as it left a very bitter taste to us and from what i see there are others in their reviews stating the same. Big shame as the rest of the people were polite and the experience could be very unique...

The good thing is that the stuff is very kind and helpful. The man who was guiding us was extremely polite and caring. Felt uncomfortable because the room where we stayed to drink tea after hammam is right next to the small space where people are drying their hair. You hear all this noise. Plus people that are coming in from outside, passing by to go upstairs to change. You can also see the cleaning lady washing the floor. Not very private atmosphere, does not allow you to relax. Would be nice at least to close/separate the room where people are having rest. The first time I saw in spa shoes they give you NOT for one time use. For me this is unacceptable. But the main thing that disappointed us was the advertisement on the website that does not correspond to the truth (see picture below). We choose this package and when calling to book it, we asked for this specific self-service combination with sauna and etc. So when we arrive we were expecting to see the place as displayed on the website. But we were told that here they have only hammam and the one we wanted it’s in the different building and that it DOES NOT have hammam at all, only steam room, sauna and a pool. Despite that, hammam itself is small enough, but a good one.

Holy goodness! First time experiencing a Turkish Bath and I am so very happy it was at this historic place. From the moment I walked in the door it was a beautiful experience. The change room and locker is ok. The hamman is oh gosh so beautiful! Gold taps and marble floors, steamy, hot and cold water, lovely diapers and surreal. The bath, I have never experienced something that amazing. Quiet and professional attendants. Warn and cold baths on marble beds, soaps and scrubs and full massages. Then it was on to the gorgeous tearoom and the dressing room where everything is supplied, from creams to makeup to hair styling. Amazing. Please go and be awed.

Affordable spa bath to relax at! We did one of the couples packages for our honeymoon. At first we we’re pretty confused on what to do and where to go. Once we spent more time there we began to understand the steps for the spa services we booked. A little more of an introduction or an orientation for first timers would have been helpful from the front desk… The massage therapists were amazing and it was the most relaxing time ever. It was great and we have been recommending this place to everyone we meet on their way to Athens!
