This restaurant is hidden a few meters away from the main restaurant street in Chania. Upon entering the restaurant, you'll be greeted by a beautiful garden adorned with lights hanging from the trees, creating a calm and inviting atmosphere. Truly a hidden gem, this garden restaurant offers a peaceful contrast to the bustling restaurant street just outside.
To start, we opted for a couple of drinks from the menu. Notably, the menu is available through a QR code, showcasing a modern touch for the area. The beverages arrived promptly and were quite enjoyable. We also ordered a bread basket, which featured an assortment of bread and breadsticks, accompanied by two flavorful dips/oils.
Moving on to the starters, we chose the Mongolian beef and a Caesar salad to share, both of which were delightful.
For the main course, we selected the pork loin and tuna fillet. The presentation of the dishes was absolutely stunning. Whether you're seeking delectable taste or exquisite aesthetics, this restaurant delivers on both fronts. The tuna fillet, cooked to medium perfection, paired remarkably well with the fresh bulgur. The pork loin was also a standout.
As for dessert, we indulged in the crème brûlée and the lemon pavlova. The lemon curd in the pavlova was a burst of delightful flavor, providing a refreshing conclusion to the meal. While the crème brûlée was enjoyable, a slightly thicker sugar top would enhance the classic "crack" experience.
It's worth noting that this restaurant leans towards the higher end in terms of pricing, and the portions are decent. If you're in search of a substantial and budget-friendly meal, this might not be the...
Read moreIf you’re going on a date or just eating with friends or family this place is perfect, food is not to expensive but is still good quality and tastes amazing. For starters we ordered the Beef carpaccio and the Trilogy of Greek dips, amazing. The carpaccio i ate by myself and it was gone in about 4 minutes, one og the best beef carpaccios i have ever had if not the best. The trilogy of greek dips was also amazing offering three different amazing dips along with bread, you also get complementry bread, i will not spoil what the dips are but you should order it if you come here. For main course i ordered the chicken ballotine with the beetroot risotto and the chicken was dry, but the risotto was amazing and perfectly balanced and cooked, when combining the risotto with the chicken the dryness was not a problem anymore and i enjoyed the dish. For dessert everyone was full and didnt want dessert but i wanted to taste the madagascar vanilla icecream so i ordered just one scoop and it was yet agaim amazing, hands down the most complex vanilla icecream i have tasted. And when we thought it was over we got 4 shoots of ouzo for free which is an amazing licorice greek liqour, and again we thought it was over but then they came with 4 scoops of the madagascar vanilla icecream and 4 glasses of peach wine for free again. Amazing food, amazing service and the atmosphere is among the best i have ever seen, truly stunning and i will remember this restaurant for...
Read moreLast night we discovered Elysium in this gem of a restaurant. Astrea Garden has only been open since April 2023, so we were very lucky to be directed there by our hotel. The food was exceptional, the service attentive and efficient, but above all calm and unobtrusive; the waiters work synergistically like a well-oiled machine (helped by the Beyoncé-like earpieces worn by all staff - so there is no annoying kitchen bell dinging or back-of-house shouting). Yiannis - one of the owners (who kindly stopped to chat) - said that they wanted to create a calm oasis in the hubbub of the busy tourist old town, both with the garden and the way the staff serve; where fine dining could be enjoyed at a restful pace. They absolutely nailed it. This former taverna has had a total modern refurbishment by a designer, and is now a quiet, secret garden hidden among the beautiful Venetian-style buildings of the bustling old town. You can see the remains of an old cellar along one wall. Sexy outdoor seating and clever use of garden space with basket lighting and murals make for a haven of epicurean delight. Every dish is just spectacular (photos below) and you will want to share everything you order, it is too good not to. Highly recommended. We will be going at least once more while visiting Crete. Get there soon, it’s only a few months old and once the secret is out, I suspect this place...
