We visited this gelato shop at 9:45pm, happy to arrive well before their 10:30pm closing time. As expected, there was a line, which we didn’t mind. While waiting, we tried to get a look at the gelato flavours to be ready to order.

One staff member was serving customers while the other was working behind the counter. When it was our turn, the second staff member began serving and asked whether I wanted a cone or a cup. I responded “cone,” but was abruptly met with a sharp, “Hurry up, there’s a line behind you and we’re closing — cone or cup?” I was surprised, as I had already answered, but repeated “cone” politely.

The rushed and unfriendly tone made the experience quite uncomfortable. There were no signs indicating the flavours, so I asked about one in particular. Instead of responding, the staff member simply went to scoop it without confirming what it was.

Unfortunately, the gelato itself didn’t live up to the experience either. I wouldn’t recommend this shop — there’s another gelato place across the way with better service and, in my opinion,...

The ice cream is regular and expensive. The staff are terribly unfriendly, you can’t try the tastes (which are uncommon) and there is no place to sit down, they don’t even have a trash bin. There’s usually a long line, so you can’t see the tastes until you’re up front. When you get to the front an annoyed person rushes you to choose and they give you a dripping ice cream (without any napkins) before you get a chance to pay. Hence your purse/wallet/card will unavoidably get covered in gelato while they urge you to pay and leave. The experience is definitely not worth the price or discomfort for the ice cream (which all taste kind of the same with some other fruit or nut added). E.g. my salted caramel was just caramel, no salt anywhere to be found. If you still choose to come, i suggest the ricotta and...

Visited Jan 2023. Dropped in here whilst visiting on a guided tour. Was told there were 3 gelato shops but this was the only one open. Was a queue however it moved fairly quickly and only seemed to slow with people asking for free tasting (they allow 1 free taste). We both got 3 scoops which cost 5 euros each. You have choice of cup or cone. We went for cup. It was nice and the lemon has lemon rind in it so you can really taste the lemon. Whilst it was good, we have had better and cheaper. Service was friendly and quick even though the lady was under pressure with...

Hands down best gelato I’ve ever had. Best ice cream I’ve ever had. Best dessert I’ve ever had. I would return to Vernazza for this gelato alone. A variety of incredible flavors ranging from traditional to unique. Fair prices. Anyone complaining about the service has skin so thin it can only be measured via electron microscope. You go up, you say what you want, you pay, they give you your creamy treats, and you bounce. Pretty simple. If you’re looking for fake smiles and disingenuous “how-can-I-help-you!”s, stick to your suburban Applebee’s.

I’ve been trying to find another gelato to compare with the amazing one that I had in Verona that is slightly alcoholic. I found it here at Gelataria Vernazza. It is creamy and delicious and distinctly flavoured. I tried the two gelato’s pictured: Crema 5 Terre & Crema Vernazza. Both were absolutely delicious. The 5 Terre had some beautiful citrus peel in it as well as a sweet wine and the Vernazza had pieces of white chocolate and berry throughout. I will be coming back here again tomorrow before I leave to try another two flavours. ♥️

As someone who’s gluten free, traveling in Italy can be a bit of a challenge—but Gelateria Vernazza absolutely made my day. I was so happy to find out that all of their gelato and cones are gluten free. My first GF cone in all of Italy! I was honestly overjoyed. I got the chocolate hazelnut and salted caramel—both were insanely good. Creamy, rich, and full of flavor. If I could give it 10 stars, I would. A must-visit if you’re in the area, especially for fellow GF travelers. (Pardon my melty ice cream photo, it was a hot day!)
