This site was built in the light of a project by the Spanish architect known by the name of Santiago Calatrava, and was completed in 1998 to serve visitors to Expo 98 and later Parque das Nações. Its inauguration was carried out on 19 May 1998 and was already considered to be the largest intermodal station in Portuguese territory. As far as its architecture is concerned, the aforementioned gare is characterized by a single atrium with large dimensions and that extends over the nave opening only in its tops over the railroad tracks and with communication through stairs located laterally. Its artistic achievement was aimed at enhancing the Oceans in order to perpetuate its importance. In this way metal structures resembling sail and prow of the boats can be observed at this pier and the railings of the piers and stairs look like waves. These "waves" were elaborated with an optical illusion so that whoever passes and observes them seems to see them undulate. As regards the columns therein, they are covered with metal elements resembling harpoons. The lights were placed in such a way as to value the entire environment described. The Oriente station or Oriente station is based on a point of convergence of the entire public transport network and serves the whole of eastern Lisbon, linking services such as the metro, the train, the buses and the taxis. Those who travel there in their own car will also not have great difficulty parking since there are several parks where you can arrange it. Around it can be visited areas of the city that have been recently rehabilitated as is the case of the riverside area, where some housing districts were built. Its driving force is the Parque das Nações, which gave rise to Expo 98, as already mentioned. In this place you can find various attractions such as gardens and parks with panoramic views over the Vasco da Gama Bridge. You can also visit the Oceanarium, the Pavilion of Knowledge as well as the Atlantic Pavilion, where great concerts are held. Here you can also visit the Vasco da Gama Shopping Center, with a large number of shops and restaurants. Near this place can also be found other points of public interest that not just places of entertainment. In this way we can enumerate the following: the Fourth Station of Security to the Public Transports, the Gare Pharmacy of the East, the Hospital of Santa Maria and the Firemen Sapadores of Lisbon. Whoever visits the city of Lisbon where this gare is located can also be housed in one of the several hotels that are located nearby.

This modern travel hub was designed in concept in 1995 by the renowned Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava. Estado do Oriente (East Central Station) was part of a big modification and gentrification plan of this area on the north side of Lisbon. The central station was opened to the public in 1998. The sprawling construction host a large shopping mall, a subway station, a High communal train station, Reginal train station, and domestic and international bus hub. Around the central building there are many spaces for walking and relaxing. Lisbon Casino is only 7 minutes walking, while Lisbon Aquarium (Oceanario) is 15 minutes walking. From here you can ride the cable car that takes you Vasco da Gama Tower.

An overall reasonably successful effort from overrated architect Santiago Calatrava, this time in the form of a transportation center with shops and bridge connections to the former Expo 1998 site and all the accompanying buildings. Undoubtedly futuristic in look and feel, the exposed concrete structure has weathered, and the more prosaic elements of human life don’t necessarily line up with Calatrava’s purist approach to design, but it is surely fun to walk around in. Also, considering the sorry state of many of his buildings today—the bridge in Berlin, the Olympic park in Athens, it’s nice to see this one in a generally good state and well used by the population.

The station is getting old, but this is a great train station. Big and modern for both train and bus, a real central hub, well designed, and easy to navigate...if you have time to kill before catching that train, just cross the street and check out the excellent mall right in front of the station! I love the architecture. Buying tickets was easy. Ticket. Finding the train was easy. Lots of nice places to get a bite to eat while waiting. Nice waiting rooms if it’s a bit chilly. Also convenient to many good hotels, and the skyway.

The Oriente station is a major transportation hub, with connections to the metro, train, bus, and Uber. There are several hotels in the area, ranging from budget-friendly to luxurious. Whether you're looking for a central location or a quiet place to stay, you'll find it in the Oriente area of Lisbon.
