Absolutely amazing for getting some fresh fruits and vegetables. The prices here are very competitive, what's more, I would rather call them cheap, especially if I take into consideration the high quality, size and taste of the products that can be found here. We've tried a couple of things: mangoes, figs, blackberries, etc and were not disappointed. Everything was fresh, looking yummy and tasting even more delicious. Since the number of markets of this sort in the UK is shrinking, this is a true gem that deserves the attention of the public including not just the locals. I've visited it on my day-trip from Cambridge, but after discovering its real value, I'll definitely return here in future. Recommended.
My feelings towards Leicester Market are somewhat ambiguous. On the one hand I quite like the idea of a fresh produce market in the middle of a town/city, but this one makes the Bridge Street market look like Harrods. And there is The Corn Exchange Lloyds Bar, which has the type of clientele that has double voddy with a pint a Carling for breakfast - looks pretty bad but mostly harmless, though. From carpets to bananas, from novelty tobacco tin boxes with weed leaves painted on them to vintage Nintendo games, name it you can buy it here. My personal favourite stall used to be the gentleman selling vinyl records on Tuesdays, could spend ages just browsing there.
This market is considered the largest outdoor covered area in Europe. It is said that it has more than eight hundred years and exists, in its current position, precisely in the Market place, near the Clock Tower, in the city center, for about seven hundred years. It is one of the most characteristic markets in England, as this market has always been a center for the sale of fruit and vegetables from all over the world. Here the prices of the mercansies, are at very affordable prices and,as I said earlier there is ,for those who must do the shopping, the embarrassment of choice.
First time been there and I quite disappointed. Half of it was empty, other half it was busy. The fruits and vegetables are cheap. Only five stall inside the fish market. Anyway, is a classic historical market that has lots of place to visit around this areas. No harm to go for buying some fruits or vegetable. May be go in weekend would be better.
Unfortunately not a patch on how it used to be in its heyday but still many great stalls, good quality fruit and veg at respectable prices and massive extra praise for Sherwin's in the indoor market which offers a sensational selection of cheeses both uk and international with the Shropshire Blue surely one of the worlds best😋
