My OH had booked this little trip as a get away together for my birthday and after having our wedding cancelled due to COVID and needing some time together to relax. We Got to the hotel early (around 2:15) so went for a drink in the bar as check in wasn’t until 3pm (quite late really) - I stood at the bar for 10 mins before having to go and ask at reception for service. We had our drink and went to check in at 3:15ish and was given the key. We were asked to pay in full there and then for the room but also an extra £12.50 (each!!) for breakfast (but I’ll come to that) Went up to our room with the bags and our dogs and it was still being cleaned and wasn’t ready for us. The lady cleaning the room said she’d be 20 mins (fair enough these things happen) so we went back downstairs told the lady on reception that the room was still being cleaned so we’d have another drink whilst we waited. Again I stood at the bar for 10 mins before giving up and asking again for service. Then she told me whilst I was ordering our drinks that she hadn’t added a dog charge when we’d paid for the room. There is NOTHING anywhere in my booking confirmation about a dog charge, it simply says there ‘may’ be a charge. I asked how much the dog charge was and was told £15 per dog, per night. So having two dogs, and two night stay - £60 extra! I’d previously emailed and rang the hotel regarding bringing the dogs and nothing had been mentioned about this charge, usually if this isn’t stated, dogs go free - I’ve found. So after speaking to the manager, and him telling me ‘you should have rang and asked’ which I had, and I showed him my emails to themselves, he did kindly waiver the dog charge. After getting into the room, it was boiling hot, the bathroom was so old and dated, there was black mould all around the shower and dirty marks all over tiles, filthy floor, dirty windows and bathroom door (pictures attached) it obviously hadn’t been cleaned properly in a very long time! The toilet seat was so wobbly every time I went for a wee I was scared it would break. The main room although very spacious and decorated a lovely colour - the floor was dirty (I took pictures the moment We got in there so our dogs weren’t blamed for this) there were cobwebs in every corner and on the light fittings. The bed was so uncomfortable I barely slept and my back is so stiff now. In hind sight I should have complained at reception but having already complained about the dog charge and being made to feel uncomfortable - I simply didn’t want to, it’s really not in my nature to complain usually.
The breakfast as I said before was £12.50 per person (!!) we were offered a selection of cereals upon arrival and offered tea or coffee, the only thing that swayed this get away back round was the lovely lady who served us breakfast, she was so incredibly kind and nothing was too much trouble. The actual breakfast itself was okay, a bit underwhelming for the amount of money spent and a bit greasy too. The chef did however bring us a sausage out chopped up for each dog - which again was so kind and they loved it!
So all in all, please avoid this place, it’s super over priced for the service and standard of room you receive. The only good thing is the location and the lovely lady serving breakfast! I could go on with lots more little details that weren’t up to standard but I’ll...
Read moreThe Central, as indeed other hotels in the area is an old, Regency hotel. Parking is bookable directly in front of the hotel at £10/night. |The hotel is of a bygone age and I have taken this into consideration in compiling my review. The reception and lounge are a faded grandeur. sofas that were once new, now shabby, most furnishings are of a Regency/ Victorian age ( i did notice an Ikea Arstid lamp in the reception though).|Really small lift serving the 2 floors. My room was a Heritage room, and it was huge, again it was Regency. |Issue with the sash windows though, only partially opened and one pain was definitely not toughened glass... it rattled and was dangerous... an accident waiting to happen... ( room 216) Bathroom was modern. For such a huge room, it was just a double bed... The pillows were cheap and lumpy, the bottom sheet was not long enough and rolled down the bed, the mattress protector made a rattling noise as though it was a form of plastic. I had been out walking and came back wet and cold....1600 hrs... no heating... I rang reception and then began 3 stories..over the hour before there was any warmth in the radiators....each time I rang down...|1) well yes, it is on.|2) The boiler has tripped out.|3) when a porter brought up an oil filled radiator( no pat test label) He said... the heating is set for 1700hrs.|Yes, the hotel is old and dated... but really, I do not wish to stay in a museum... Btw... having stuffed animals everywhere in the lounge is not a restful atmosphere.... All the faded glory of the hotel was clean though. There were floor boards creaking and people walking about above me at 0230hrs, it woke me up.... Think it could be...
Read moreHad a lovely 3 night stay here. The staff went above and beyond expectations, one member even carried a comfy chair from one of the other rooms for my husband who suffers hip problems. We had a first floor room at the front of the hotel with balcony, the room was very spacious. The hotel has a lift, which saves lugging your cases upstairs. |The only downside was the king size bed, the mattress and the mattress protector were very badly stained and the mattress was very uncomfortable every time one of us turned over the other person was woken by being bounced about, it needs replacing with a pocket sprung mattress. The headboard was also loose and would swing from side to side. The room is very dark and would benefit from a desk lamp - especially for us ladies who need to put their makeup on. We will definitely be returning but we’ll probably opt for a twin room next time so we can get a good nights sleep.|The hotel is in a great location for easy access to the shops and the beach is just down a very steep hill. On-site parking can be purchased at the hotel, though spaces are limited. The hotel is also pet friendly, we were charged £20 extra...
