On Tuesday and Thursday lunchtimes theres a world streetfood market behind the open gates...theres somewhere to sit and eat freshly prepared foods from places like Venezuela, Mexico, Thai, Greece, the US and so much more.

It's just behind the Central St Giles buildings, which you cannot miss as they are brightly coloured! It's on the St Giles Circus which means you can approach it from Covent Garden's Neale Street, or opposite the major theatres showing "Memphis Belle" or from Centre point, Tottenham Court Road, Soho, Holborn or even Bloomsbury!

It's not a huge affair, but an oasis from the hustle and bustle of the Capital amid some trees, which makes deciding between the 8 or so food artisans reasonably easy. Although the emanating sizzles and flavours makes it a tough call every time. I go with every intention of a falafel wrap smothered in homemade hoummous and fresh peppers only to find myself wiping the juicest gravy from pulled lamb from my cheeks instead.

When you ask the chefs how they made their dishes they are always happy to talk about it - unless they have a busy spell, then its order-dish- wrap-serve at speed.

It's a must try on any shopping trip. A chill out and eat well zone.

The market is curated by Epicurean Events who host more streetfood markets around London, which I intend to discover and...

I was greated by a kind priest who explained some of the history of the church. There were no others in the church and once I learned the history I was surprised. I stayed in a hotel nearby I stopped at the Church as I was wandering around. I learned there has been a house of prayer at this site since this church has been around since 1101. There used to be a leper hospital here. Years later “in the fields” was added because the parish stretched out wide. The church was near gallows in the 15th century and at the church gate the criminals were offered ale - known as “st Giles bowl”as a last drink of their life. A new church was built after the London fire and in the 1700s the area was poor. Later the children of lord Byron were baptized here. In the late 1800s the black and white tiles were added (see photos). An intresting stop if you’re...

Beautiful Anglican church in the heart of London. St Giles in the Fields is the Anglican parish church of the St Giles district of London. The parish stands within the London Borough of Camden and forms part of the Diocese of London. The church, named for St Giles the Hermit, began as the chapel of a 12th-century monastery and leper hospital in the fields between Westminster and the City of London. It is situated between Seven Dials, Bloomsbury, Holborn and Soho. The present church is the third on the site since 1101 and was rebuilt most recently in 1731–1733 in Palladian style to designs by the architect Henry Flitcroft. Inside you can find a beautiful church that offers tranquility and peace in the heart of town. A...

St Giles in the field is situated on Denmark Street and is another church steeped in history. Back in 1101, the first church was founded by Queen Matilda, wife of Henry 1st, as a hospital for London's leppers. Eventually, the parish grew, and the necessity for a new church was required. The second church was built in 1631 and became known as the plague church as so many victims were interred in its confines. Samuel Pepys makes reference to this in his diary. The third church and what you see now were built and consecrated in 1733. Designed by Henry Flitcroft in a palladian style with heightened steeple, the church still serves the local parish with weekly services.

The site of St Giles-in-the-Fields Church has a history going back to medieval times, although the the present church only dates back to 18th century. Architecturally, the church is interesting for being the first English church to be built in the Palladian style. Even if the church isn't open, it's worth a detour for those with an interest in architecture. As others have mentioned, St Giles was the last church on the route the gallows at Tyburn. An interesting bit of trivia is that the churchwardens paid for the condemned to have a drink at a nearby pub, popularly called "St Giles' Bowl".
