On Tuesday and Thursday lunchtimes theres a world streetfood market behind the open gates...theres somewhere to sit and eat freshly prepared foods from places like Venezuela, Mexico, Thai, Greece, the US and so much more.
It's just behind the Central St Giles buildings, which you cannot miss as they are brightly coloured! It's on the St Giles Circus which means you can approach it from Covent Garden's Neale Street, or opposite the major theatres showing "Memphis Belle" or from Centre point, Tottenham Court Road, Soho, Holborn or even Bloomsbury!
It's not a huge affair, but an oasis from the hustle and bustle of the Capital amid some trees, which makes deciding between the 8 or so food artisans reasonably easy. Although the emanating sizzles and flavours makes it a tough call every time. I go with every intention of a falafel wrap smothered in homemade hoummous and fresh peppers only to find myself wiping the juicest gravy from pulled lamb from my cheeks instead.
When you ask the chefs how they made their dishes they are always happy to talk about it - unless they have a busy spell, then its order-dish- wrap-serve at speed.
It's a must try on any shopping trip. A chill out and eat well zone.
The market is curated by Epicurean Events who host more streetfood markets around London, which I intend to discover and...
Read moreI was greated by a kind priest who explained some of the history of the church. There were no others in the church and once I learned the history I was surprised. I stayed in a hotel nearby I stopped at the Church as I was wandering around. I learned there has been a house of prayer at this site since this church has been around since 1101. There used to be a leper hospital here. Years later “in the fields” was added because the parish stretched out wide. The church was near gallows in the 15th century and at the church gate the criminals were offered ale - known as “st Giles bowl”as a last drink of their life. A new church was built after the London fire and in the 1700s the area was poor. Later the children of lord Byron were baptized here. In the late 1800s the black and white tiles were added (see photos). An intresting stop if you’re...
