Lovely church and a great venue for musical events, It is located at the western end of Sussex Gardens We went to see the London Welsh Chorale perform 4 sets of various pieces. The quality of the performance was really quite stunning and very accomplished.
1841–1843 a new church, St James's, was built to accommodate the worshippers and to replace St Mary's as the parish church. The original St James's church was designed by John Goldicutt. The chirch was redesigned and made bigger again some 40 years later. Princess Christian of Schleswig-Holstein laid the foundation stone for the new church on 11 February 1882 and the building work was carried out by Sir Arthur Blomfield. On 29 May 1884, the author Oscar Wilde married Constance Lloyd in St James's Church. This is commemorated with a circular wall plaque which is at the east end of the church.

The church has fine stain glass windows including one dedicated to Queen Victoria including the scene of her coronation and an appearance by General Gordon.
