While the original is no longer there, and a replica in its place, maybe it’s for the best for that historic artifact because the area is not supervised and there’s trash everywhere. The replica is inaccessible from the parking garage built above it, in the elevator, if you go to level 1 there is even a sign that says “Zero Mile Access”, but once you go out the door, it locks and you can’t get to the post because of a fence, instead you have to walk up the rings of the parking deck for 3 stories to get out. There is a little, almost subway type entrance to the lower parking deck to the northwest of here, and that is where you can enter, or walk in on the street to the north. Be aware the area is very busy, as multiple homeless shelters occupy the area near the tracks. The display is dirty, and there’s trash everywhere so it’s not for your average tourists, only for urban explorers, I’d say.
Like some of the other reviewers have remarked, this area is *rough*. Not for the faint of heart, I recommend going as a group if you want to visit this site. Navigate to the underground parking lot at 15 Wall St., the entrance is off of Decatur St. The mile marker is located to the left of the lot, towards GSU. Very active homeless area, expect a lot of garbage. I clean up the site a bit for the photos, it was sadly pretty toxic.
