Maybe I am getting too old for this type of concert scene but I was miserable all night at this place. I took the kids to see the synthwave band Dance with the Dead. The bands were great, but I knew the night was going to get bad when I went to the bar and ordered a jack and coke with a shot of grenadine and two cokes for the kids. The three drinks were $17. I gave a $20, with three for a tip, thinking I would have a few more and over the night, I would leave a decent tip. My drink was so strong and I couldn't taste the grenadine at all. I see what the guy on the Bar Rescue talks about over pouring. I didn't need to buy another drink all night. So they lost that extra revenue on top of the over pour. I was leaning on the corner of the bar and the girls were a few feet ahead of me. The bartender tells me I can't stand there even though as soon as we moved several people moved into that spot and she never said a word to them. Now there was not one chair in this place. I offered to pay extra but was told they didn't have any chairs. My back was hurting so bad by the end of the night I could barely walk back to the hotel after. Even leaning against the wall wasn't helping after a while, I had to go outside and sit on cold concrete in 39° weather. Now this was the first time I had been to a show at the Masquerade in this location. I had traveled many times from NW Florida for shows at the Masquerade in Atlanta on each floor I was always able to find a seat. I have been to thousands of shows all over the US and even the world. At this point in my life, I have paid my dues standing at the front of the stage. Now, I like to sit in the back and have a table in front of me to put my drink on. Now my complaint stems solely on the venue. From what I was able to see when I wasn't outside the bands were great. If the ad doesn't say seating available, I won't be back. Honestly, if the bartender didn't kick me off the bar just to let others stand there, I would have given the venue four stars and just made a complaint about no chairs. The girls enjoyed the bands so if there had been a place to sit, the place would have got a 5 star just on...
Read moreI recently attended an event at Purgatory at The Masquerade, and it was quite the mixed experience. The initial impression was chaotic, primarily due to the confusion about the entry lines. It wasn’t clear which line to join for the event, causing some frustration and delays getting in.
Once inside, there was a significant wait before the event actually started – almost two hours. This lengthy delay seemed excessive and could have been managed better to enhance the overall attendee experience.
Regarding the merchandise and refreshments, I found them to be disappointingly overpriced. The t-shirts being sold at the event were marked up considerably, which was a letdown for those wanting to purchase event memorabilia. Additionally, water being sold in cans at a high price was another downside. While I understand venue pricing can be higher, it felt a bit too steep.
However, it's important to mention that the concert itself was fantastic. The performance was outstanding, making the earlier inconveniences somewhat worthwhile. The energy and quality of the concert were top-notch, showcasing what Purgatory at The Masquerade can offer in terms of live entertainment.
In summary, while the event at Purgatory had its logistical and pricing issues, the quality of the concert experience itself was excellent. Future events could benefit greatly from improved organization and more reasonable pricing for merchandise and...
Read moreThis is the 1st time I've been to Masquerade since it moved to Underground. I have both a compliment and complaint about Purgatory. It has a row of seats if you are like me and don't want to stand all night. The problem is the sound system does not aim toward the seats so you can't hear nearly as clearly as if you are directly in front of the stage.
Another detail is there's a parking deck that leads directly into the area of Underground where Masquerade is. It has a big neon sign saying Underground Parking. The problem. There's another deck on the other side of Underground that also says Underground Parking. That's not the one you want. You'll have to walk past street bums to get to Underground. So if the sign isn't bright and colorful, that's not the...
