Really tried to find a reason to give this place at least 2 stars because it’s very rare that I ever leave a bad review (let alone 1 star 🙃). We stayed here with our family to celebrate our wedding in Atlanta and I cannot express how much of a let down it was.
When we got checked in, the room was way smaller and completely different than the photos online.
The photos showed a love-seat lounge area with a small dining table but we got a room with none of that. It was like half the room was missing. Our family booked the exact same room as us and theirs matched the photos so it’s clear they put us in a lower grade room for whatever reason.
Called down twice to let them know we got a different room and we were disappointed/would like them to put us in the correct room we paid for. They said they'd call me back in 10 mins to resolve this, but they never did.
1 hour went by so I called back down again. I told them we needed to know ASAP if they were going to move us because we were in a rush to start unpacking. I expressed that we were getting married the next day and needed to get settled in & start ironing our stuff / had a lot to do yet. Which I then realized, the rooms don’t even have an iron or ironing board.
Nobody ever called us back so we were waiting around for nothing and we never got our room issue fixed. No urgency what so ever to even simply give us an update after promising they’d call back in 10-15 minutes. TWICE.
We ended up having to use our family’s room for wedding photos & cake because ours didn’t have space/the extra table area. Our guests were shocked at how little the hotel cared and that they put us in probably the worst room possible for our wedding celebration.
I would also like to add, that upon making the reservation, checking in, and also calling about this room issue, I had mentioned we were here celebrating our wedding and getting married the following day and not one person from the hotel or guest services ever said a simple “congratulations”.
Now I’m not one to act entitled and I don’t need anyone to care that we’re getting married but I feel as though that is just basic customer service and common courtesy especially from a hotel you’re literally celebrating the biggest day of your life with 😂
Any other hotel I’ve ever stayed at has done something thoughtful or upgrades your room if possible when you mention you’re celebrating something special during your stay. But to not even acknowledge this or at least put us in the same room that we booked was pretty surprising from what’s supposed to be a “classy/luxurious 5 star hotel”.
Even the hotel restaurant did nothing when we said we're celebrating our wedding after asking us "if we were celebrating anything special." The restaurant 'Carmel' down the street was great and brought out drinks & desserts for our entire party.
They called our room around 11pm while we were sleeping to ask us if we wanted a refrigerator (we had requested one 8 hours earlier). I told them no, we are sleeping and already got one. We went back to sleep and 30 minutes later the doorbell rings and wakes us up again. Someone was at the door with a second fridge? Super unorganized and annoying to be woken up twice before our wedding.
Next day, we called to request a luggage cart. They said they would bring it right up right away. Of course that didn’t happen either and they just never brought one up as promised.
By day two, we realized when you call guest services, it’s not even the hotel desk that is picking up. It seems to be a call centre in India or something so don’t expect to ever get anything you request. Such a joke of a system.
Other things to note:
Self parking is $45/night. Valet is more.
Mandatory $35 extra daily fee you need to pay that is said to “elevate guest experience” by offering $15 off the spa (which we had no intention to use) or $10 off the mini bar where you'll find shooters for $16-$18 when you can buy them for $3 at a store.
Location is great.
Absolutely not worth the cost to stay here after you factor...
Read moreMissing Wedding Ring and Lack of Transparency at Intercontinental Buckhead Atlanta
My wife and I checked into the Intercontinental Buckhead Atlanta on Friday, December 20th, 2024. Upon arrival, my wife placed her wedding ring on the dresser, alongside mine. The following morning, as we prepared for a 1:30 PM prenatal massage, we discovered that her ring was missing, though mine was still there. Despite thoroughly searching the room and asking the cleaner to help conduct a deep search, the ring was nowhere to be found.
We immediately reported the missing ring to the hotel staff, who dismissed our concerns and implied that we were mistaken about bringing the ring to the hotel. The hotel management mentioned they would conduct a “key interrogation” to review who had accessed our room. They provided a document showing timestamps and names of individuals who entered the room, but this document was printed out of our presence, raising questions about its authenticity. The document claimed that only my wife, myself, and the cleaner had entered the room up until approximately 1:30-2:00 PM.
Later, I asked the hotel staff to review security footage to confirm whether my wife had worn the ring upon check-in. The footage confirmed that she had the ring on her hand at that time, supporting our claim.
After leaving the hotel at around 4:30 PM to run errands, we returned around 8 PM to find signs that someone had entered our room again. Towels were reorganized, and a fresh bucket of ice had been placed in the room—items we did not request or use. This was concerning, as housekeeping had already serviced the room earlier in the day at 1:30 PM.
I requested an updated key interrogation document from the Director of Security, Rodney Lee, to show all room access timestamps up to our return at 8 PM. Shockingly, they refused to provide the updated document, insisting on only showing the initial report with older timestamps. I then called the police, hoping this would prompt the hotel to provide the updated records. However, the hotel maintained that they could not release further details until the police investigator assigned to the case requested them.
On Sunday, during check-out, I requested to speak with Rodney Lee directly, but he declined. Instead, he passed along a message stating that he had submitted a claim with the hotel’s insurance and that someone would contact me. When I asked for the claim number or the name of the insurance company, the spokesperson for Mr. Lee told me there was no claim number or insurance name and that I should simply wait for a call.
This entire situation feels suspicious and deeply unsettling, especially given numerous similar complaints from other guests about missing valuables, as seen in the hotel’s online reviews. The lack of transparency, refusal to provide updated access logs, and dismissive attitude from the staff have left us feeling violated and frustrated.
I strongly caution anyone considering staying at this hotel to think twice if they value their security and peace of mind.

Read moreI booked a 3-night getaway here to celebrate my wife's birthday. Although I've been a platinum IHG member, I've never tried an Intercontinental hotel, however I'm aware of their reputation. After staying here I can definitely say it's a world-class hotel chain. It's not the cheapest by far, although I have to admit we've paid more per-night for a very lower-quality hotel in NYC a number of times. That being said, the service here was absolutely top-notch. Starting with my call before we arrived in town with Tony at the front desk, he helped me add another night to the 2 nights I had already booked in the same room with no hassle at all. We drove into town from NC and I already knew the self-parking fee was $45/night with unlimited in/out privileges in the hotel garage, which I preferred to the higher valet parking fee (I also prefer to park myself, rather than hand my car over to a valet). In my research before booking the Intercontinental I was amazed at how many other hotels in the metro area would not give unlimited in/out without paying the higher valet fees, even if they offered self-parking. Check-in was smooth, the room was exactly what I asked for (high floor, away from elevator/ice machine), and the room itself was fantastic. It was a King Classic room, with an L-shaped couch, large flat-screen and a Keurig machine. The bath had a full-size soaking tub, dual sinks, and a separate shower stall. One particular thoughtful feature was the motion-sensors built into the nightstands on each side of the bed: if you got up in the middle of the night, the down-lights under each stand would light as you walked away and then came back to bed! Also of note, the climate control in our room was better than any other I've experienced in a hotel, and the room was absolutely QUIET every night - no doubt due to much better sound deadening. We happened to run into the concierge, Preston, on our first night, and he was a wealth of information. He gave us maps and a booklet on what to see in Atlanta that we kept to plan another getaway later this year for the holiday season. Each day we had occasion to interact with Preston and he always took care of us. All the staff from the front desk to housekeeping and everyone in-between was very professional, courteous, and had answers to all our questions during our stay. We didn't take advantage of the in-house spa on the second floor, which is also where the heated salt-water pool and hot tub are. My one disappointment with this stay would be that the hot tub was not working while we were there. I tried to take a soak on our first morning before heading out only to find the jets were not working, and the water was just warm. A maintenance worker happened to come out while I was still there and tried to start the jets to no avail. I thought he might have gotten it fixed, but each time I checked (usually morning and evening) it still wasn't working. Since this didn't really impact the quality of our stay I don't see needing to lower the rating any. The Americano restaurant is an absolute gem, and I've reviewed that separately. We will be staying here again for another getaway that we're planning later in the year. I highly recommend The Intercontinental Buckhead if you want to...
