On August 20, 2020, I drove myself to St. Mary’s Medical Center. I was having severe abdominal pains. I arrived shortly after 10pm. No one was in the waiting room. I was seen by the front desk lady whom put an armband on me. The nurse was waiting for me to take me back. Once I got back to a room I saw a nurse who took my blood sometime before 10:30pm. However, apparently my labs were never tested until the doctor saw me. In which, Dr. Riley did not come in and see me until 11:18pm. I told the doctor how much pain I was in. The doctor said she would send for labs which why weren’t my labs started almost an hour before when they initially took my blood?? She also ordered a CT scan for my abdomen. I asked the doctor for something for my pain, the doctor told me I needed a driver in order to give me pain meds. At the time, I did not have a driver, so she gave me toradol. This med did not help, the next time I saw the doctor I told her this. She again brought up the driver policy & said something about an alternate plan where if they administered pain meds they would have to put me on a 4 hour hold, which I said was fine. I was under the impression when the doctor left that she/or a nurse would be returning to give me pain meds. I never got pain meds, in fact no one checked on me for over 40 MINUTES and I was not given a nurse help button nor shown where it was if I needed help. When at approximately 12am, I got the most excruciating pain of my life (worse than child birth and I’ve had 2 children) I felt TRAPPED! I had no way to get a hold of someone for help. I climbed out of the hospital bed onto the floor where I CRAWLED to the hallway entrance and yelled “Can someone help me??”No response. The pain was increasing and I thought I might pass out. I crawled further into the hallway and yelled for help when I saw a couple nurses. A nurse responded and said “oh no honey why are you on the floor?” I responded “I’m in a lot of pain and I’m having a hard time. I wasn’t told how to get help if needed and was not given a help button”. As the nurse assisted me back into my bed, he reached way beyond my reach behind the hospital bed and said “This is your help light.” I was in so much pain not exact of my words used but somewhere along the lines of “how could I have reached that??? No one told me how to get help!” After this the doctor ordered pain meds that she failed to order the first time. I was given dilaudid. I didn’t get my CT scan until 12:40 am. Almost an hour later I am told I am bleeding from somewhere in my right ovary. The doctor tells me at 1:40am I will need to be transported via ground ambulance at first she says Centerpoint, because St. Mary’s doesn’t have a OBGYN surgeon, then I hear Research Medical Center. The entire time the doctor is freaking out, which I would assume is because she realized how bad she messed up. It wasn't very assuring to hear the doctor sounding frantic during this time that I was already terrified. Basically it was a waiting game for another 2 and half hours until a decision was made and I was en route to Research Medical Center’s ICU. I am BEYOND upset about this entire situation. I was internally bleeding from the time I walked into your Emergency Room. It took them SIX HOURS to come to a resolution. The ONLY reason I didn’t bleed out is because my body saved me. Not your staff or your doctors! I am so traumatized by this experience and the fact I had to throw myself out of a hospital bed to get help! This is beyond sloppy Medical practice and I am absolutely sickened and scarred by my experience. Also..you guys botched my medical records, one place the doctor said my pain was a 2, IT WAS NEVER below a 6! SHAME!
I HAVE EMAILED you guys TWICE about this with...

Absolutely terrible. Went there on may 5th for what I assumed to be a kidney infection. Filled out paperwork. Told admittance lady I was pregnant and she added that in the computer. They had me pee in a cup then they took it. Waited in the ER waiting room for 3 HOURS before someone finally came and got me. The nurse that got me had no idea I was pregnant and while looking at paperwork, asked me all the same questions I had already answered. She also had no idea that I had already peed in a cup and told me they would want to do a urinalysis. I informed her that they already did, 3 hours ago. Then after finding out I was pregnant and did not have an obgyn picked out, she proceeded to lecture me about that. I had to stop her and tell her I was not here for an obgyn, I was here to find out if I have a uti and to get a prescription for it and go home. She finally left and a NP in training came in after like 20 more minutes of waiting. She informed me that I do have a uti. More questions that had already been asked and answered from checking in and from the previous nurse....so NP in training then tells me they want to do ultrasounds on my kidney and stomach. I asked why and she said to see if it's a kidney stone and to check on the baby. After going back and forth for like 45 minutes I said no. I just want my prescription and to go home. But During this time I did agree to bloodwork. So they came and did that. They tried hooking me up to an iv at that time as well. When I asked what the iv was for, the two women (one to draw blood and the other who was supposed to hook up iv and use a doppler on me, which I had to repeatedly deny despite their pushing) they looked at each other, and shrugged, the one saying "I don't know." I stated that if you don't know, and I don't need it, I don't want it. It was then that she tried to use a doppler after I had already said no. I told her no and said I had already denied that from the previous person in here. She got attitude and left. Alone in the room again. After like another 20 minutes NP walks back in. Shes nice, but pushy. Really pushing for me to get ultrasounds. If it was a kidney stone, they couldn't do anything. And paying out of pocket I wasnt going to pay for that just so they could tell me yes, it's a kidney stone. It was 10 at night. I'm hungry and exhausted by this point. I tell them I just want my prescription and to go home. They try to get me to take an antibiotic shot, which I also denied, which irritated them. But I was so done by this point. Got my prescription and left. Bill came today for $3,960!!
I called billing and was told that they apparently admitted me to the hospital as an outpatient procedure. I had told them from the moment they took me to the back I just wanted to know what I have and get my prescription and go home. They never said anything about admitting me. I was in that back room for like an hour and a half. I have been transferred all aound when i call and put on hold when I try to find out why I was admitted. Do not go here for anything. Rude, pushy, and money hungry.
Updated Got ANOTHER bill in the mail for 1400 dollars, that's just for the nurse practitioner that saw me. So my total bill for sitting in a waiting room for 3 hours, then in an exam room for and hour and a half is over $5300 dollars!!! Have called both St Mary's admissions office and the customer complain number given to me by "owner" in the comments. Left messages. It has been a week and have not heard back from the Hospital OR the customer service. Comment was only put on here from "owner" so it looked good for them. I will never, ever go back to this hospital. Please do yourself a favor and...
Read moreThe night crew was fantastic. I got there about 4am with what I thought was appendicitis. They put me in bay 17, which I mention mostly so the hospital knows that I could see and hear everything going on at the counter. They gave me an IV, meds, and called for a CT. I was not to have any fluids until after the CT ruled out surgery. It showed I have colitis so doc comes in and asks me some questions and I mention my pain and nausea are coming back. Shift change is at 7am which unfortunately for me was about the time my doctor called in more meds and then left. I wait. Things seem kinda hectic out there so I wait some more. Nausea comes back full force so I push the button to see what’s up. A very sweet CNA comes to tell me that I don’t have a nurse yet and she cant give me anything but she’ll check in. The pain comes back, I can’t breathe. I push the button again. Same CNA, this time I still don’t have a nurse because there is an ambulance on its way. Okay? I ask if I can at least have some water as my IV bag had been empty for about an hour. She’ll ask. I never hear anything back. Finally I just open the door and ask the counter directly, where they are and have been just sitting there. The nurse sitting on the left closest to me says they waiting on an ambulance. Doesn’t even bother looking at me. I respond with “I’ve been told that for the last half hour” to which she says “yea it takes awhile for an ambulance to dock” except I was brought in by ambulance, they call when they are 10 minutes out, and from my house to that room wasn’t 30 minutes. Also the whole ER just stops indefinitely if an ambulance is on its way? I then ask if they got an answer about the water. The Second Lady sitting there leans over the the first and says “what did she say?” To which the first responds “she wants water.” Neither say anything to me. And the best part? No ambulance ever showed up. Eventually a different nurse comes to give me more meds but also wants me to pee in a cup to rule out STDs and narrow down what antibiotics I need. I ask for some water, she says I can’t have any though can’t give me a reason why. “The IV should be enough” for me to need to pee though, so we’ll just wait. I still don’t know why they would not let me...
