Important Note: Please be cautious when reading reviews dated after November/December 2024. These may not reflect the true state of The Crown, as this is when the building was acquired by Avenue 5. As of today, management is offering incentives (free rent) Google and Yelp reviews, which may skew recent feedback. Iâm writing this review solely to help future renters make an informed decision â the apartment search process is stressful enough, and everyone deserves a quality living experience, especially with todayâs prices.
Iâve lived at The Crown for nearly two years. Initially, our experience was excellent. However, since Avenue 5 assumed management, things have steadily declined. We were patient and gave them time to adjust, but the quality of service has only worsened. Hereâs an honest breakdown:
⸝
Cons: ⢠Pool closure: Despite being advertised as open year-round, the pool has been inconsistently closed for over 2.5 months and appears likely to remain closed all summer. ⢠Valet trash: Frequently missed pickups, yet itâs a mandatory and paid amenity. ⢠Parking gate issues: The Winnifred Street gate is often broken and left open to nonresidents. Thereâs no alternate exit, and move-in trucks often block the narrow lane, creating major safety risks. ⢠Maintenance delays: The team is understaffed. Requests may take a week or more, and management has been unresponsive. ⢠Unannounced access: Maintenance may enter for âroutineâ reasons even if youâre not home. ⢠Late communications: Updates are often sent after business hours, making follow-up difficult. ⢠Package deliveries: Amazon frequently leaves packages randomly. The package room is messy and disorganized, with residents left to sift through everything. ⢠Empty amenities: The advertised coffee room has been vacant or for sale the entire time weâve lived here. ⢠Noise issues: Units facing S. Tryon endure constant construction, traffic, and music. Not managementâs fault, but worth knowing. ⢠Cleanliness: The building is noticeably dirtier since the management change. Trash is left in common areas, and carpets are increasingly worn. The once-fresh-smelling hallways are no longer maintained.
⸝
Pros: ⢠I never had issues with parking (note: I havenât gone through the new vehicle registration process). ⢠Regular community events â about 3â4 per month. ⢠Convenient location with easy walking access to Uptown and South End.

I hope this helps even one person avoid the experience weâve had. If youâre still considering signing a lease here, I truly wish you the...
Read moreI have never written a google review before, but anyone who applies to the Crown needs to be aware that this could also happen to them.
My roommate and I applied to an apartment at The Crown (please note that we were approved, paid the deposit, and signed the lease). 30 days before move-in they call to inform us that the girl living in our unit decided that she wanted to stay and not move out.
Instead of informing her to move out, they let her resign her lease and terminated our leasing agreement with them. This sets a horrible precedent that anyone who signs a lease with the Crown can have it revoked if the person currently living in the unit changes their mind. Just imagine if it had been one day before we had to move....
I spoke with my current apartment building and they were shocked that this was how the Crown conducted their business. They said their policy would require the current resident to move out since they did not elect to stay 60 days before their lease was up. I spoke to other apartments that said this was also their policy, so I am not sure why the Crown is different.
I will note that the leasing office at the crown was kind and apologetic. They did refund our deposit and offered a unit in their sister property, Solis. However the unit was not comparable in the slightest.
Additionally, we spoke with a representative at their management company, Carter-Haston. The man that we spoke to was extremely rude, talked over us the entire time, mansplained, and did not apologize once for the inconvenience. It was super disheartening to be treated in that manner after their company was the one screwing us over. I was not even going to write a review until our horrible interaction with him.
Bottom line, please be weary if you are going to sign at the crown. The staff at the property is lovely, but the management company is horrible and I would not recommend living at any of...
Read moreI recently moved from New England to the Charlotte area and chose to move into Broadstone Queen City Apartments. There are SO many options in the South End area to choose from, but Fatima (the Broadstone leasing agent) made my decision easy! Fatima was very knowledgeable and could answer all of our questions on the spot on tour day and our follow up questions promptly via email as things came up later. Most importantly, she listened to what I wanted in an apartment and was able to show me an amazing unit right away that checked all the boxes. Honestly after touring this place, I blew off a few other tours because I knew this is where I wanted to live. The other tours I did end up attending were not ever comparable!
Rachel (the Leasing Manager) was also incredibly helpful and pleasant to work with. Rachel was quick to jump in and help out where needed and make us feel welcome and comfortable. She helped my move in be really smooth.
The Broadstone Queen City staff has really gone above and beyond. They truly care about their clients and community (including Kelli and Will!)
As for the complex⌠The look, location and amenities really speak for themselves! Broadstone QC is located right near the Pantherâs / soon to be Charlotte FC Stadium, South End Restaurants / Bars and an easy journey to Uptown. The theme of the building and style are absolutely gorgeous. So far, everyone at the complex has been very welcoming and Broadstone is the perfect place for young adults to live, have fun and embrace the city of Charlotte. Canât wait for more (and some awesome events this summer)!
To be...
