Can you have mood lighting in a wine tasting room? Anyways the atmosphere here is a moody den type feel. It has a very dark feel to it. The long bar area is of a darker wood, which adds to it.
You get 6 tastes for $12. They have a large variety to choose from to taste, among an even greater number of options to purchase from. They rotate the selections. Currently their were 26 wines from dry to dessert and fruit wines, 7 Spirits, 3 hard ciders, and 4 non-alcoholic juices. I tried Sweet Nancie Peach, a sparkling wine. Lemonade Sangria and Frankenmuth May, both sweet white wines. S'more, a sweet red wine. St. Julian's Ice Wine and their seasonal Orange Creamsicle Hard Cider. Every wine I tried was very unique to itself, with complex layers. I liked them all but preferred the Nancie Peach, Ice Wine, the hard cider. The Orange Creamsicle hard cider was unlike any cider I've had before.
The service was excellent and even though they were busy they kept up.
You don't order wines and pay for your wines from the servers. Instead they have a separate counter with 2 people taking people's orders and paying for the orders and tasting. This creates a slow bottleneck waiting for them to grab all the wines, answer questions, and payment. Not the most efficient method. They were friendly though.
Overall a 5 star review. Would I return? Yes I would. It was an overall...
Read moreCame to frankenmuth for my mother’s birthday and went to St. Julian’s because she’s a wine club member and it was her BIRTHDAY and we had the worst experience ever and will not be coming back. We came on 11/2 at around 4:00pm and had the absolute worst customer service. Mind you i’ve worked in customer service my whole life and i have never treated customers with such disrespect and annoyance. We were told there would be a 15-20 minute wait even tho there were multiple tables open…so we trusted the process and waited (thinking maybe they were understaffed) but a group of 4 and a baby who came in and were in line after us were sat IMMEDIATELY (our party was a group of 3). When we did eventually get sat our waitress had minimum knowledge about the wines and after ordering I was never ID once (i turned 21 2 days ago and look 12). THEN (it gets better) when i asked for a glass of water she told me “I’ll get to it when i’m less busy”. As a wine club member my mother was ashamed and embarrassed about how highly she talked about this place compared to our experience. She will be cancelling her membership and we will not be...
Read moreMy husband and I, with a couple of our friends met in Frankenmuth on Black Friday 2024. It was a cold day, so we were looking for a warm-in-spirit as well as a warm-in-fact place for enjoyment.
We had met in Dudee, MI the month before, and there, first experienced a St. Julian tasting room. We liked it so much, that we and our friends joined the St. Julian wine club, entitling us to free tastings.
Armed with our St. Julian Wine Club memberships, we entered the Frankenmuth tasting room and were greeted by our delightful tasting host, Sandy. The room was busy, and Sandy was managing more than just our little group. I was amazed as she went from group to group, accurately pouring our picks while also warmly describing the wines, and even sharing some good conversation on topics she had in common with us. And, of course, the wines, ciders and wine-based cordials were delicious, suiting all of our tastes.
St. Julian is the best. We and our friends travel all over Michigan, so whether we're near Frankenmuth, Union Pier, Dundee or Paw Paw, we'll...
