Over the years, Congress Plaza has transformed into a very different place from the original strip mall. In some ways it benefited, but in some ways it has not.
This plaza is kind if difficult to find if you don't know it's there because it's not seen from the main road. The reason most people in Saratoga know it is because the CVS was the only 24 hour pharmacy for many years. The CVS is not part of the actual strip mall now, but part of a free standing building.
While there is a good size parking lot, the parking around the building that houses the CVS & more is not great. In addition, there is quite a walk with stairs & ramps around outside of building to access the various entrances. I could see someone who didn't know the area well, parking on wrong side & having a long walk to get inside; difficult for anyone with problems walking. I was most recently there in winter and the icy paths & stairs were kind of hazardous.
The actual plaza is pretty standard as far as access and parking. All in all, it's a nice plaza, however the elderly and or those with physical challenges might want to go to another CVS if they need a short walk with no steps to get...
Read moreWhile there's ample room for parking for all of the establishments in the Plaza (the bulk of the parking spaces are shared by all tenants), the way the parking lot is laid out is counterintuitive, confusing, and dangerous. What I mean by dangerous is that more often than not, when one is pulling out of a parking space, it's usual to have other vehicles - the drivers of which can't see you any better than you can see them - proceeding towards you at a fairly rapid clip, from two, even three, directions.
The lot also has a very limited number of ingress and egress ways, which makes getting back out onto the roadway quite challenging, except on those occasions other drivers are exhibiting an above normal degree of courtesy.
That said, the lot and surrounding area is reasonably well lit and reasonably well maintained; it's condition is a significant improvement to its condition 15 some years ago (before CVS moved to it's current location on the opposite side of the plaza; when Friendly's and Albany Savings Bank were in the part of the...
Read moreI actually went to the Embassy Suites hotel in the plaza for a conference. While I didn't stay overnight, as I live close by, I heard the rooms were nice. Each staff member I encountered was friendly and helpful. They began to know me on site as I was the first one from my office to arrive, my office was hosting the conference. As soon as they saw me, they immediately opened the conference room doors, allowed me to set up and told me to get breakfast while I waited for coworkers and attendees. Breakfast was very good, many choices. Much better than other hotels. A chef making fresh omelets is very nice in the morning. Everything was clean, in fact I don't think I ever saw anything out of place. Our office staff was happy and we heard many compliments from our attendees regarding the hotel. I would definitely go...
