Expected much, much more from such a highly rated barbeque restaurant...
Ordered a Combo for 4 w/ mac & cheese, cornbread and parmesan fries. Meats included were 4 chicken thighs, brisket and pulled pork. Reason for 2 stars?
3 of the 4 thighs were undercooked and pink/red in the middle, very raw in texture and appearance. Looked good on the outside, skin was crispy and appeared juicy, however they were inedibly raw in the middle. Wouldn't try again. Brisket was moist but flat on flavor. Fell apart nicely with every touch of the fork. Wouldn't try again with that taste. Pulled pork was also good, but had a lot of sauce mixed into the pork itself. Let the pork stand on its own and let your customers add sauce, as needed. Taste was good, regardless, but easy on your mix! I'd order this again, Mac & cheese was decent, panko breading is always a plus. Decent enough. Cornbread was sweet, moist, and the portion was big. Great side. Parmesan fries were dry, too lightly seasoned to call them parmesan anything, had a nice amount of sea salt on them. You can get parm fries better almost anywhere else. Dizzy sauce was for the wife, she liked it a lot. Sweet BBQ sauce had a horrible amount of vinegar in it, giving it a foul, strange smell. Probably would be tasty if that was fixed, but something was definitely wrong. Yuck.
Overall, the potential was there and the hundreds of positive reviews can't be totally wrong, so I'm assuming I caught them at the wrong time. Place was less than half full with customers, so it wasn't overly busy. If I give Dizzy's another shot, hopefully someone else is paying, but this doesn't feel anything like the 3rd ranked BBQ...
Read moreDizzy? Yeah, the check sure left my wallet feeling that way.
Ordered ahead over the phone going with the Potato Skins, their "Famous" soup, and a Dizzy Chicken sandwich. In all the price for 3 menu items, before tip, came to a little over $37. There was an up-charge on any side with the sandwich besides chips, which I was not feeling so I went with the Parm Fries and those skins were nearly a quarter of the price of the bill. So yeah, pretty pricy for a solo customer.
But how about the quality? Well no complaints there, what I got was pretty great. The skins were loaded to the edge with a hefty helping of pulled chicken, the soup lived up to its famous title, and the sandwich was way more filling than I was expecting given how light it felt. I still think the price was a tad bit high, but maybe limit yourself to one entree and the soup and you'll find a more reasonable bill waiting for you.
The off-street parking is also nice given the location around can become pretty busy, though the entrance is a single lane and the curb has a pretty harsh incline to it which may result in a few low-to-the-ground cars scraping on the street on the way out.
The interior also had a light smell of cigarette smoke, which I believe was coming from some cooks who were taking a break outside the kitchen door at the side of the building and the smoke was being pulled indoors. Maybe have any smoke breakers stick to the back patio or at least close the kitchen door when they're...
