Great way to get from downtown San Diego across to the Coronado Island. $8.00 per person each way is well worth it! We did the short ferry (15min) one way to the Coronado Island (pick up by the Hilton, by The Rady Shell concert venue at Jacobs Parkshell), and did the Long Way back (30mim) to the main land which dropped us off right by the USS Midway Museum. The ferry ⛴️ runs every 30 min, they are very punctual. Lots of seating for guests up on the top deck or below if you prefer. Getting tickets is easy, either right at the Port in a self-serve kiosk machine, or by scanning a QR code and ordering online. Pricing is the same for both online or at the Port. The price is also the same for the short ferry 15min and the long ferry 30min. It's all the same ticket. I would definitely recommend it, it's a nice quick way to see San Diego harbor from the water. Beautiful skyline! And definitely worth crossing over and wondering around at the...
Read moreThis part of Coronado island is always overlooked. Everybody goes straight to the hotel on the other side and forget how beautiful this side of the island is. Whether you’re coming from the ferry or driving here, this is a must stop in my opinion. There is a long board walk along the island that gives you beautiful views of San Diego bay and the skyline. My favorite time of day is in the evening so you can see the city lights. It’s very safe, there’s never any homeless people. You can always find parking in the evening, and it’s free. During the day usually you have to get lucky with street parking. There is a great variety of restaurants everything from expensive fancy restaurants to cheaper restaurants where are you don’t even get served at the table; so whatever your budget is, you can find what you’re...
Read moreI used to live on Coronado 25 - 30 years ago. At that time, it was a sleepy little town with a small base on the north end.
Wow!!! Has it ever grown, literally, they take sand from the dredgers and dump it onto the island/peninsula to enlarge for apt buildings, other hotels and tourist shops.
The ferry landing was small, unpretentious and the ferries ferried workers back and forth. Now, the ferry landing is huge, lots of shops, several restaurants, coffee shops, an area for summer concerts and a beach area they have developed since I was there.
People were very friendly, shop owners were courteous and the breeze was wonderful.
A note: parking was very packed and hard to find parking spaces. You may want to park in San Diego and take the ferry to Coronado. Currently, pricing is $10...
