I was one of the first of my large party to arrive, and two employees helped us connect another table to accommodate us. We didn't wait for everyone to arrive before ordering separately, and I used the same QR code my associate had just used to order his food and received an email receipt immediately, along with a notification from my bank that a new transaction was pending. It was anything but convenient, however. The last member of my party arrived 30 minutes after I had placed my order, and my coworkers were already receiving their food in the meantime. I asked a passing server what the status was on my food and she responded that "it should be on its way." When the last arriving member received his food 15 minutes later, I approached the counter and asked again about the status of my order, at which time I was informed that there was no ticket placed for my food and that, because my bank statement showed "pending," I couldn't receive a refund because the payment might not even go through. The server also mentioned the QR codes are sometimes faulty and that it's better to order at the counter. She initially claimed that I could pay for a second order and the food will be right out, but when I refused, she called a manager who had to look up the status of my purchase remotely before they could begin preparing my food. A refund was still not an option, apparently, so I requested the food to go instead, given the rest of my party was finishing up at this point. By then, it was less than ten minutes before I was given my food in to go boxes. While I understand technical issues can create unexpected problems, the fact that the server knew about the QR code issue proves that they knowingly continued to rely on a failed system of ordering. I recommended that they pause the use of the QR codes until they can fix the issue, but without an on scene manager, I can't promise my suggestion was taken to heart. Additionally, I wasted 45 minutes waiting with no effort from the staff to compensate me for my time. My initial payment was not refunded or discounted, and I was offered nothing extra. The food, at least, was tasty, but not tasty enough for me to recommend suffering through a similar...
Read moreVillage Pizzeria Bayside is immediately located at the base of the pier for the Coronado Ferry landing. A netted covering with lots of tables and great view from many seats, the pizza, location, staff and atmosphere, do San Diego proud. This was my first visit to Village, and it happened purely as a recommendation from one of the doormen at the Loews Bayside Resort. When I asked for a recommendation, the young man immediately said Village Pizza at Bayside.
Initially, I was concerned that we would be arriving just before 9pm, the very time they officially close. But when we arrived the lady who placed us on the wait list just waived her hand and shrugged it off, "oh, you're on the list, don't worry". And she was right. They did close the wait list sign-ups at 9pm, but there was no rushed or 2nd class treatment to those of us who were seated in the late hours. In fact, we left after eating, chatting and enjoying the view at about 10:05pm, and others were still lingering, even as the staff just began to clean up for the day.
The staff, as I mentioned already, was wonderful. From checkin, to seating, to server, and even another staff member who helped us with directions to find the nearest grocery story open on the vacation island- everyone was excellent.
The pizza was New York style, served in 3 sizes: 12", 18" and 28" (enough for a large family). We chose the 18" for just the two of us, and had lots left over. We could have had just the 12", since the crust was excellent and hand tossed with lots of flavor. The toppings were also fresh and excellent. I had sausage, pepperoni, tomatoes and mushrooms. I personally would rather sausage wasn't crumbled, but it was still tasty nonetheless. The pizza came hot and reasonably fast. Our drinks were filled and refilled quickly.
Overall, it was an excellent experience. I would love to bring my whole family here- the perfect spot for a fun, casual, family night at the water edge.
The highlight of this fun meal time was that the last ferry of the night ended the trip with a fireworks show right in the front of the water, next to our restaurant. We got to view the fireworks show as we ate. It was nice, enjoyable and fun.

Read moreMy cousin and I went here last week (probably last Saturday) and were deeply disappointed. We ordered garlic knots and the "Whitestone pizza". The place claimed to have an east coast taste or style or something like that. Definitely not. I am from Long Island, New York. I know what a good garlic knot and a good white slice of pizza tastes like. I didn't get that here. Now that's not the main problem. I get it... it's California so I am not looking for the best pizza ever. The pizza tasted sweet... which is not what white slice pizza tastes like. So, our server... Kirsten or Kristin or something was terrible. We told her that we weren't fond of how it tasted... and she told us "that's how it's supposed to taste". No. It's not supposed to taste like that. So we told her we didn't want anything else from there. She avoided our table for the rest of our visit. It was probably another ten minutes after our complaint that she brought us the check without even asking if we wanted another glass or anything. Yeah, we did say we didn't want anything else earlier... but, my cousin and I have both worked retail and service industry.... you try to make the consumer as happy as you can. I would have appreciated anything besides just getting the check handed to me. So we put our cards in with the check and Kirsten doesn't even come to our table for a while. She flirts with some bearded man and then walks past our table. During this time, two men who sat down to eat left after not being noticed by her for so long. I wouldn't have been so unhappy had it just been the bad food. The one redeeming factor was that she took the pizza...
