El Rancho Motel — Hotel in Coronado

They amount of good reviews this motel got is suspect to say the least. Rooms were janky and small. The room we stayed in overnight was dreadful. Cleanliness? Nonexistent. I don’t know what other reviewers are talking about when they said this motel was “very clean.” It’s not. Balls of lint and hair all over the floor. Dust everywhere, I can feel it with every inhale. Do not walk on the floors barefoot or with socks on because if you do your feet or socks will end up black. I can tell housekeeping doesn’t do their job. Not only were the floors disgusting, the bedsheets were another thing. There were stains on the bedsheets and pillows, I didn’t even want to get into bed. The bathroom was also in bad condition. The shower floor had black dirt stains. The toilet paper roll looked used. Toothpaste spit stains on the sink faucet. The towels had some kind of film that left a residue on your skin. I ended up just using my daughters baby wipes to wash up, that’s how bad the towels and shower was. Beds were uncomfortable and hard. Pillows had stains, hair and were flat and hard.

Overall, this stay was very unpleasant. Couldn’t even sleep because of how uncomfortable the room made my family and I feel. I would advise anyone to steer clear of this motel. This stay was NOT worth $174 for one night.

Only pro I can think of was the location but even then we could hear every loud engine and motorcycle...

Certainly above-average accommodations within my room (#4), ceiling fan! wahoo, but it was difficult to find someone that was watching the property, so I felt pretty unsafe the whole time.

First, the guy across from 4, who appeared to be a long-term resident staring me down as I entered the property. Then much worse, the next morning, a young man nicely dressed in slacks & white shirt, w/ name tag for a service industry, came through banging on doors (waking me, which was hard to get over), cursing, and yelling for "Eddy". Two residents confronted the man, and the man verbally abused them, but then thankfully left in a grayish full-sized Acura-like auto. I would have much preferred to have a watch-person in the office (which was empty before 10am and after 5pm).

Otherwise, also great location and street parking was never an issue (during week days). I was in town for ACSM conference at San Diego...

In room #1 you cannot receive the "Complimentary WiFi" signal. Management or office staff are not on site to resolve issues. Water heaters are not sufficient for this motel, as I started a shower and 2 minutes later the water went cold. There are mouse and roach traps underneath the beds. (Thankfully empty though.) The upkeep of this motel needs to be addressed, the floors need a through cleaning as the grout between the tiles is black and crumbling. Dust piles need to be cleared from behind the door and the toilet seat was not cleaned prior to check-in with urine streaks and a non-hygenic hair welcoming me to the unkempt restroom. Cleaning crew: please do your job. Electrical is not sufficient in this facility, the management has multiple taps off of a single outlet and when the micro fridge turns on, the lights dim.
