If you found my review helpful, please like it 👍🏼. 🎉 Despite the mixed reviews, we actually had a good three night stay at Best Western Plus Suites Hotel Coronado Island in the San Diego area of California. We would recommend Best Western Plus Suites Hotel Coronado Island to our friends and family. Moreover, we felt really safe with their precautions during the coronavirus pandemic protecting both the guests and staff. We chose Best Western Plus Suites Hotel Coronado Island given its free parking for our rental car, free wireless internet, free breakfast and snacks, and free passes to a nearby gym. Best Western Plus Suites Hotel Coronado Island was in a very convenient location given its closeness to the main roads (Orange Avenue & Third Street), 15 minute drive from ✈️ San Diego International Airport (SAN), grocery stores (Smart & Final Extra!, Boney's Bayside Market), and walking distance to the many local spots such as the beach and pier to enjoy the beautiful San Diego skyline. We really appreciate the elevators and stairs to the garage, ground floor, and other rooms for easy accessibility and opportunities for social distancing. At the hotel, we had an accessible suite (room 209) that had a double bed and a wide accessible door to divide between the living room and bedroom for us to focus on our meetings, work, and sleep. Although the room can easily have four guests, it is more than comfortable for two people. There were a variety of things we enjoyed in our room including, but not limited to: television in the living room and bedroom; multiple drawers to store our clothes and items; spacious accessible bathroom; and a small kitchenette with a granite counter, sink, Keurig machine, microwave, and refrigerator. If you are worried about your privacy, just keep those inner blinds closed because the north side rooms face the neighbor's backyard 😂. However, the areas that the Best Western Plus Suites Hotel Coronado Island could consider is to (1) improve the wireless internet experience including login and random slowness throughout the day; (2) consider furniture that is an actual working desk for those who need to work; and (3) ensure the bathroom fan is working to help with shower's warm humidity. Although the pool was closed due to the coronavirus pandemic, we really enjoyed the modified grab and go breakfast where you can request multiple items (including vegetarian options) from the front desk that includes, but is not limited to: breakfast bowls / sandwiches / burritos, cereal bars, mini pies, yogurt, hard boiled egg, cereal, dairy and almond milk, coffee, orange juice, apple juice, V8 vegetable drink. During the other hours, you can also request other items that includes, but is not limited to: granola bars, sweet or salty snacks (e.g. Rice Krispies Treats, Goldfish, Cheez-Its, Wheat Thins, etc.), coffee, and teas. As they say, an early bird gets the worm so the availability of your favorite breakfast items and snacks are first come first served! Moreover, whenever we had any issues during our stay, the staff were wonderful in addressing our needs and would try to be reasonably accommodating. The staff were not only very humble and kind but they even had a sense of humor including a down-to-earth woman named Esperanza. All in all, we would definitely recommend Best Western Plus Suites Hotel Coronado Island to our...
Read moreI have been going back and forth on reviewing. I had to make sure I was doing it for the right reasons. So we checked into room 108 June 12th. The room is nice my only issue at check in was the bathroom was quite small. We wandered around that evening and thankfully did not unpack all of our belongings. We tired and went to bed. I woke up at 630am got a cup of coffee and sat in the chair. My husband shortly after approached me with a flat brown bug attached to him when he went to the bathroom. We identified it as a bed bug. We had checked the bed the top mattress was brand new. We then raised it against the wall and checked the box spring. We pulled the bed skirt back and large bed bugs scattered. We packed lightning speed and got our luggage out of the room. Around 730am we went to the front office. We made sure no other guests were around. Esperanza was working and my husband relayed our findings to her. The primary focus of Esperanza was Expedia ( who we used to get the room). In that moment our concern was not about a refund. We were half asleep, no shower, frantic. Esperanza explained we would need to speak to the manager who was set to arrive at 9am. We left the office and just processed. We decided we would use garbage bags in our luggage we used for dirty clothes to cover the luggage and pack up the car. I went back into the office pleading to Esperanza we needed to speak with the Manager to pleaae call her about our situation. She refused and said she would not that she was driving in to work. I became emotional and agitated. I asked her to come to the room to see the bugs. She refused and said I don't want them to get on me. I said but it is okay my family slept on them all night. Esperanza in my opinion really lacked in compassion and sensitivity. Esperanza never even apologized in any way about the situation. I was livid to say the least. We decided to leave and found a laundry facility and washed our clothes. We found a public bathroom to clean up as best we could. We also made a new reservation at Homewood Suites in San Diego but check in wasn't until 4pm. We finished the clothes and returned to the Hotel to speak with the Manager. As soon as Letty the Manager came out her first response was an apology. We relayed all the information of our room to her which she also confirmed their maid service relayed they were present in the room. I emphasized to Letty our testament from Esperanza and she stuck up for her which was fine. i just wanted a teachable moment for Esperanza if this or something else happened in the future. We received our refund and stayed at Homewood Suites. I post this because you should always check your room. Also bed bugs multiply quickly are hard and expensive to get rid of in your home. Do not stay in this room until pest control has sprayed inside a minimum of two times. They should have paperwork showing otherwise do not chance it. When we returned home we washed everything again and wiped down our shoes and luggage. My husband and son have bites and my husband has serious anxiety about it. Checking constantly to make sure none of the bed bugs attached and transported...
Read moreWorst hotel experience in a long time. The location is wonderful and really that is all this hotel has to offer. The rooms are cramped. The bathroom was tiny and in an odd place in the room. The beds covered the plugs (which you need to even plug in the lights they provide) and anything they or you plug in would get bent to hell, because of you move the bed to plug in the lights and chargers, the cleaners would move the beds back and break the plugs.
The second to last night we were there, our air conditioning began to smell like it was burning. It was night and our kids were asleep, so we turned it off and the front told us they would have someone come look the next day. We received no communication about it the next day and called down and were told they weren't sure if maintenance came. We turned the AC back on and the burning smell came back. We had one night left, so instead of switching rooms we were told they could compensate us for the issues of no AC and a broken plug on my charging station. When we checked out, we were informed the manager would come and give us a 25% discount. Come to find out a few hours later, we were given a 10% discount on a single day...for terrible 2 nights of sleep without AC and a damaged item. Called in and was told that the AC was working fine. Um....we didn't say it wasn't cooling, we said after it was on for a while it started to burn. So they refused to accommodate us for the time without AC.
Icing on the cake was the breakfast was gross. Eggs, bacon, and sausage are a simple thing to offer and instead they offered odd vegetable options (I know asparagus, broccoli, and cauliflower are just what I want for breakfast) and weird meat mushes. We ended up just going out to eat.
The pool was also tiny. Only 3 feet deep and you couldn't have too many people in at a time to enjoy it. Walking distance to the ferry and the bay was really the only benefit here. We would...
