Gettysburg PA is like stepping back in time. Beautiful town. Driving down mainstreet was like a travel back in time as homes and businesses that were standing during the Civil War are marked with a bronze plaque and easily identifiable. People still live in these homes, businesses are still run in them, it's amazing. The battlefield is sobering. You stand there, and feel the enormity of the battle. It was literally in these families back yard. Cannonball holes are still visible in buildings. This is a must see destination. Affordable bus tours right across the street from the entrance to the cemetery battlefield. I highly recommend the bus tour.

There are more than 1,300 monuments planted in Gettysburg battlefield national park. Lincoln's is the most compelling, commemorating the imperfect man who, after the slaughter, tried to heal wounds and at the same time urge the Union to keep fighting. Sadly, nobody knows precisely where Lincoln and other speakers stood for his address at the Gettysburg cemetery dedication. But historians at least have a pretty good idea of the vicinity, which is near this monument, surrounded by gravestones, and evokes a somber power of its own.

The Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address Memorial is probably the only monument that is dedicated to a speech in the world. The monument was dedicated in 1912. The monument consists of a bust of Lincoln and 2 plaques on either side of the bust. The right side plaque contains the Gettysburg Address and the left plaque has the invitation that was sent to Lincoln to attend the commemoration of the National Cemetery and deliver “a few appropriate remarks”.
