Building management does not honor leases:
1900 Pacific has recently evicted all tenants on floors 13-16 regardless of how many months left were on the lease. My 12 month lease was up on September 28th, but I will be out by March 31st, like all my other neighbors. They did this because they sold this portion of the building to Marriott. They told all the tenants some time in February about the sale, but did not provide anything official in terms of a move out date until the 30 day eviction notice on March 1st.
The best management has offered is to continue your lease in some other unit in the building, at the new market rate aka more expensive than when you signed (on a lower floor so worse view, and maybe not even your original unit if none are available on lower floors).
This has led to a scramble for all of the current tenants to secure units on floors below, and management has promised the same units to multiple residents, leading to more confusion and frustration. Talking to other neighbors, management let one tenant sign on the 14th floor, only to inform him a week after he moved in that he'd have to move all his things to a different unit in the building because of the sale. They really gave this dude the song and dance of how nice the building is, let him sign a 12 month term knowing full well the tenant would have to move all his things again a month into the lease.
I am moving out of the building, but in scheduling my move out, management called me first to set a date and time, only to double book that time, call me back a couple days later and make me reschedule my movers to cover for their mistake.
Management also allows the Marriott next door use the service drive handicapped spot freely as valet overflow. So if you have guests who use a wheelchair or have another disability, or grandma and grandpa come to visit, they may not be able to utilize the handicapped parking spot without fear of getting booted or towed by your landlord. Recently I had a guest park in the handicapped spot in the service drive, with a handicapped placard on the dash, only to have the car booted. This led to a very charged argument with nighttime staff, with the building staff insisting myself and my guest were in the wrong, and they made me pay $100 to take the boot off, when it was well within the power of building staff and Marriott valet staff to just take the boot off for free and apologize. It was only when I showed up in the leasing office the next day to further complain and fight for the rights of those in this city who need handicapped spots because they can't walk long distances, that the $100 was credited to my account.
1900 pacific is a very nice building, it has good amenities, the units have nice fixtures in the kitchen and bath, the -06 and -07 units have big windows & wonderful views of downtown and Pacific Plaza. It is a 1-block walk from the St Paul DART rail station, so great access to public transit. The building is located in a nice area of downtown that is very walk-able. The parking garage is not attached to the building, but I have always found the 450-foot walk through air conditioned office tower sky-bridges just to get to my car part of the charm of the building.
But if you sign here, just be warned: management can and will pull the rug out from beneath you and smile to you face while they do it. If we as tenants break a lease, not only do we usually have to provide 60-days notice, we get charged through the roof in fees in order to break the lease. The landlord can pull some tiny clause out of their ass, kick you out, only give you 30 days, and give you basically no assistance on...
Read moreI don’t write reviews as often as I should, but they are particularly important if you are looking where to live downtown. The best thing you can do in that case is talk to current residents or read these reviews..The differences can shape your entire experience from awesome all the way to running far away..I consider myself a veteran of downtown having lived down here 7 years and worked for 22 years.
As previously said, yes the rooftop is fabulous and management is on point. Michelle, Ray, Randy, Kym, Beau, and security guards are a pleasure to be around, extra helpful, and always keep residents updated..I’m glad I waited to write the review, because now I’ve gotten to know them each individually and they have me as well in the last 3 months.
Clear pick of all the places in central downtown district for several reasons..
Safety - I went from looking over my shoulder and zero security to feeling at ease here. This is why you will never hear me say a word about the parking or having to walk all of 90 seconds to get in the door. The skybridge means no weather elements, great coffee place on way out in morning, and added layer of security. I no longer feel the odds are 50/50 I’m gonna pepper spray someone on the way inside at night.
Design - Impeccable. It’s clearly well done just by looking at it first glance and you know the care was taken to make it right if it is LEED certified. It’s in the details that you can see the difference though. Extra touches like a built in wine style cooler, really nice separate bath and shower combo, cabinet style built in recycle and trash, and the common resident areas. Take a look at the entire 2nd floor and you’ll notice it. Created as a common space for residents to lounge/collaborate in and someone took care to make the furniture and artwork cool. Not just some bean bags and magazines tossed around..
Amenities - I enjoy living downtown, but yes it comes with it’s limitations. An innovative building owner would see how much those little conveniences can add to quality of life..Like many of the residents, I have both a career work side and an artist side. Creativity is highly encouraged here and the art makerspace studio was a deciding factor for me. Musicians have a basement studio, bicycle people have a whole room for storage, gym is super nice, there is a pet spa, and even a cool gallery space ground level. Petro inside the Cambria hotel attached has a chill bar for a drink or dinner within steps of front door.
Community - This goes hand in hand with amenities above..The design is laid out to encourage a sense of community and artistic collaboration. What I loved most about my last place was the people and connections made..With only a few exceptions, we consist of adults living alone or with a spouse. All ages...I feel like it’s important to know you have one, two, or many people you can call as neighbors when life in general goes up and down over the years...Even if you don’t have a traditional family, you can still have people to rely on or spend a holiday with every now and then..This can be vital sometimes if you have no family. Or like me, you can do both..hand pick certain events to socialize and stay in your cave the rest of the time :)
I don’t really have any true complaints yet....but when I do, I will share..It’s expensive, but not more so than other places around. The increase in rent is balanced out by the low energy bill, cutting cable, and using gym...
Read moreI've lived here for about 6 months now and would give 1900 Pacific Residences 3.5 stars. While overall it has been an enjoyable experience thus far, the overall layout of the apartment 'complex' and the parking is the main cause of the rating. Make sure you fully understand the parking situation BEFORE you sign a lease. The Good: The staff is excellent. They all are very kind, friendly and attentive. The few issues that I've had have always been addressed quickly. The location is also great. Downtown: close enough to everything but far away to not be in the middle of the hustle and bustle of downtown constantly. Its also one the least inexpensive apartments in/near Downtown, Uptown and Deep Ellum. It was 1610 (includes rent, trash, pest and parking) for the A8 when I signed my lease in Oct (a few weeks after they opened). The Bad: The parking garage is not connected to the complex. You must use the skybridge or walk outside to get to the garage - not fun when you're carrying things. The garage is shared with Enterprise. They've blocked the entrance/exit on several occasions and ignore when you honk to let them know they are blocking. The garage is tiny with short ceilings. One car can barely fit driving in/out let alone two. If your assigned spot is not on the 2nd/3rd floor you must use the elevator or walk down to the skybridge door access. The car port in front of the complex is only for ~15 loading/unloading. It used to be just no night parking. The only entrance to the complex from the garage is through the lobby/leasing office. The Annoying: You need a key fob to access all common areas and your floor only. This is good except for those of us that live on the 17 floor. Everyone can access the 17th floor because you have to use the elevator on the 17th floor to get to the 18th floor aka the roof top. The roof top pool is a kiddy pool at best. It is extremely small and only 3ft deep. The 'clubhouse' is also on the 18th floor - you have to go outside to get to it. When the weather becomes nice those of us on 17th floor will be in for a treat when everyone is enjoying the roof top. The noise from walking and set up was not enjoyable. I can only expect it will be louder with 15+ ppl. I picked the top floor to avoid hearing ppl walk. The overall noise has not been that bad. I can hear next door neighbors walking every now and then but often seem to hear what sounds like someone tumbling down a flight of stairs. Like I said earlier, I've enjoyed living here so far. It's too late for the things I don't like to be changed but would probably recommend living here to others. Hope this detailed review helps others on their...
