A 45-minute drive from D.C. on a good day, Ellicott Mills Children's Museum is the area's newest children's museum. Open from 1-5p p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, here's what you should know: 1) Admission: It's free. However, considering giving a donation to keep the history alive. 2) Space: Located inside a historic Quaker one-room schoolhouse, the museum is literally three rooms- a classroom, a general store and a "great room." Through exhibits and an alphabet scavenger hunt in the general store, visitors learn about 19th century life in a mill town. 3) Staff: Most are volunteers and friendly. 4) Parking: They have parking at the court parking lot or on the street. There is a restroom on site.

Outstanding place! We spent over 1.5 hours submerged in absolute hospitality of the hostesses of that historical and so real house. Not something we expected from a children’s museum, but a historical museum turned into playground with yarn, dishes, store, tools, quarter school desks. Grateful immensely!

Newly opened museum which allows children to explore life in Ellicott Mills! Everything is kid friendly allowing for hands on learning about schools, general stores, post office and lots more! Great addition to EC!

FREE & FUN! This public museum is perfect for young children. It has 3 small rooms full of antiques and replicas for children to play with. My daughter loved playing pretend in the general store and the great/family room.

The museum educators were very nice; they gave us an informative tour of the museum, telling us about the rich history of the property and of education in Ellicott City. They also showed us some games/activities to try and let us explore the place on our own. We ended up staying for over an hour there and my daughter didn't want to leave.

This museum is a great option for families with little ones (ages ~2-10), as there's no admission fee and it's interactive and educational. Check it out if you are looking for something to do with your kids on the weekend (the museum is only open on the weekends from 1-5pm.)

Side notes/Trivia: The museum was open in Spring 2022, after over 10 years of preparation, fund raisings and remodeling. Most of the museum items were donated originals or handcrafted replicas. The museum entrance is right across the Old Howard County Court House. Free street parking...

Free admission, donations encouraged. Walked up the big hill from downtown and was not disappointed. The three docents were all very lovely and attentive to our 5 year old. They had three different crafts set up, all of which were seasonal and fun. It is a kid-friendly learning environment teaching gently about life in a different era in Ellicott City. They told us the crafts change monthly at the beginning of each month. Even for adults without kids, it is still a cool old school house worth checking out. Will...
