Good overall, but with some notable downsides. The restaurant was fairly busy, but not packed, when we went. The waitress was slow in greeting us and giving us menus.
I ordered a blueberry cider from their menu, but was given a pear cider from the same company instead. I like pear, so it was no big deal and I just drank it, but it is still annoying that the menu was incorrect and the waitress was completely unaware of that.
As for the food, my companions got the following: chicken sandwich (I think it's called bird is the word) that looked huge and tasty- it came with fries, and the person who got it said it was very good. Another person got one of their pizzas (w/fig or something unusual like that iirc) and liked it. A third person got the short rib "french dip" which was big and looked delicious. That also came with fries. She really liked it.
As for me, sigh, I got the short rib pot pie. I was a bit hesitant to order it, since it was $27 and didn't even come with any side dish. It was tasty (though under-salted) but the puff pastry top was undercooked and I was only able to eat the top layer as underneath it was nearly raw and as such inedible. The portion size was rather skimpy for 27 bucks, and worst of all they were very stingy with the amount of actual meat in it. There was only one or two smallish chunks of beef in it, otherwise there were some- but not a lot of- small "flakes" of it scattered here & there. The vast majority of filling was peas and potatoes. I was disappointed in that overpriced and barely-meat-containing pot pie, and the undecooked puff pastry made it that much worse. I was REALLY excited to try this, but ended up being REALLY disappointed and felt lowkey ripped off. In fact, while we were still there I literally still felt hungry after finishing the dish, and I am a small skinny woman so it doesn't take a gigantic portion to fill me up- just a normal/non-stingy one. I don't think a customer should still feel hungry after eating an entree at any restaurant!
This was my first time there, and I loved the cozy and charming atmosphere. HOWEVER, I'm so disappointed and turned off because of that overpriced and underperforming pot pie that I would hesitate to come back, even though my friends' dishes all seemed much better. Manor Hill really needs to improve and enlarge that pie or just stop serving it, in my opinion, because I know of NO ONE who would be happy spending 27 bucks on the pot pie that I received. Such a shame, because if my dish wasn't such a big letdown I would defintely be planning on...
Read moreMan, this place was a letdown. The food from the reviews looked fantastic and almost was. I'll break it down by what my wife and I got, and how the service was.
The restaurant: Very clean and welcoming. The tables were a bit small and cramped like 3 ft apart.
As an appetizer, we got the fried green beans with honey sriracha. The sauce was great and the green beans were fresh. The problem was they were lukewarm to cold. We put it in as an appetizer, but it came out with our entrées.
I got the salmon with cucumber salad and black forbidden rice.
Salmon: Nice cut but was pretty overcooked and not really seasoned.
Cucumber Salad: Tasted fresh but was not seasoned at all.
Black Forbidden Rice: Totally overcooked and mushy. Was not seasoned at all.
Mojo Carnitas Tacos: Looked like they were sitting under a heat lamp forever and got that dried out texture. The sauce was great and the ingredients were fresh.
Fries: Cold and unseasoned.
Service: I feel like we somehow upset the wait staff??? We didn’t say anything rude or have any interactions outside of normal restaurant greetings. From the beginning, Ryan was extremely slow with everything. There was a table next to us that got drinks in about a quarter of the time we did. It took over 10 minutes for us to get drinks, and another 10 for my beer to make it over and it was in a can, not draught. We were basically ignored the entire time, while the table behind us was read the specials and got check backs about every five minutes. It was super bizarre. I could understand if it was busy, but there were three tables in the dining room. This was definitely a first for us.
Overall: All the food was so close to being good, which is the worst part. They definitely use very high quality ingredients, but there were technical errors. The wait staff thing was just weird. For the price, it’s 100% not worth it at all. I’d rather take three trips to Waffle House.
2 stars because the food appeared to be prepared safely and was edible, and there were no order mistakes made...

This was my first visit to Manor Hill, and I went specifically for brunch.
Everyone was really-super-wonderfully friendly, from the host to our server to the food runner. If I could give them 10 stars, I would! It’s rare, lately, to work with genuinely friendly servers, and I’d go back just for that experience. Yay!
The patio is small, shady, and quiet. A lovely little spot to eat and chat with friends! The patio is at the back of the restaurant and appeared to be accessible only by climbing two flights of stairs. Fine for me, but definitely not ideal if anyone in your group has mobility challenges, so be aware of that if you’re expressly looking for outside dining.
I ordered fried eggs and bacon—both excellent!—and their “pearl waffle.” The waffle was quite sugary and oddly dense and dry, and after a couple bites I asked to swap it for toast. I’ve never had a waffle like that before, so I’m not sure if it’s a regional thing or a Manor Hill thing…? It was so dense I had to saw at it with a knife to cut it.
The server was super chill about my request and brought me an order of toast instead. I asked for jelly or jam but the runner told me they didn’t have any…?
My sis got the avocado toast, which she gave 3 stars. The avocado was thinly smeared on the bread then topped with a LOT of onion and chopped bacon and a drizzle of what tasted like thousand island dressing. It was good enough, but less like avocado toast and more like an open-faced bacon sandwich, if that’s a thing.
The coffee and mimosas were solid, if forgettable.
I’d like to go back for lunch or dinner to try their main menu. The terrific service warrants a second visit, even if their brunch fair was only average. Plus they have a cute “beer garden” patio across the street from the main entrance.
Thanks so much for the friendly...
