Coordinates Vineyards — Attraction in Fredericksburg

We went through 2 other high rated winery/store front wineries before landing at this delightful experience which was the only one we really would've wanted. I wish we would've started at Coordinates first!

We started off trying just the first random selection and then continued onto the red reserves. Austin was very descriptive about each of the wines but also allowed us to attempt to explain what we tasted. After being at the other wineries, I had picked up a slight preference for dry red wines and noticing the layers of flavor. We went on about this and picked his brain some. He delved into the temperature/humidity in which the grapes are grown and how it affects the flavor... How the fermentation process works and how the alcohol is created from the sugar breaking down with the yeast, creating the dry feel and alcohol content.. Barrels used for aging, fresh new barrels vs once used barrels, even how they are charred. This made me relate it to how whiskey is aged in similar fashion. We talked about every intricate layer that goes into making wine of this caliber and I'm much more educated because of it.

Loved seeing the historic Deike home at Coordinates Vineyards, home of the nine famous Deike Brothers from Hye, TX, who played the Stanczak brothers from Illinois, in the All-Brothers baseball game in August, 1935. It’s a story that includes LBJ, and you will find pictures of the past president and the Deike brothers in the LBJ room inside the home. Making the home even more nostalgic is the fact that it was built from a Sears and Roebuck kit, and its history includes the area’s first cotton gin. The story is well told by Austin who owns coordinates with his brother, seems fitting since brothers seem to dominate the home. If you are visiting the other LBJ tourist attractions nearby, add the Deike house to your itinerary. The large, lovely oak trees add to the beauty of the home, and you can sit under them with a nice glass of wine, as they have some good ones. Austin is sure to educate you on those as well, as it is obvious he’s an expert in the wine field. You can’t go wrong at Coordinates Vineyards. A must go to winery and tasting room in downtown Fred! Just all round fun place to go with a great interior and back patio space. Austin the co-owner was there on our evening visit and he was a class act dude. Took great care of us during out whole tasting experience. We did the mixed tasting of 4x2oz each but he also gave us 2-3 more samples of other wines in South Africa which they specialize in. That was cool! Our talk and mingling was so fun and the wine itself was delicious! My favorite was the 2019 Sangiovese for sure. Nothing we had was bad at all, everything we would get again. This is a newer spot on the Main St winery scene but I can see it going places fast and growing quickly with wines like this and staff this cool. You must go here if your a...
