Tillie Pierce House Inn — Attraction in Gettysburg

We booked a one-night stay at the Tillie Pierce for our weekend getaway to Gettysburg. We usually love staying at local, historic bed and breakfasts on our travels. The check in was promising, a charming building in the heart of town. We walked in though, and no one was around, took a few minutes for someone to greet us from the back, and she seemed a little put off by us. Then we discovered that the "breakfast" was just a plain ol' continental breakfast of cereal and cold bagels. We liked the spot though, so we walked into our room and got cozy. We found a journal of previous guests that hinted at paranormal activity in the spot, more of an exciting curiosity than an annoyance. It was the first weekend in June, so it was a little bit hot. After our day in Gettysburg, we returned to a rather stuffy room that didn't get any cooler throughout the night. I certainly understand the desire to leave old historic buildings as they are, but having climate control is just a fundamental of lodging these days. Also, there didn't seem to be any staff members on premise after the normal business hours (9-5) and there was just an emergency number. Needless to say, it got so hot that my wife and I decided to actually spend the night at another hotel. We deeply regretted staying here. Not only was the bed advertised as a queen (it's a double that sags in the middle and is extremely uncomfortable), but the "breakfast" part of this stay consisted of a water pitcher marked "hot" that was never even warm and some day-old muffins from the grocery store. The street was extremely noisy and there was no one in the house in the morning to ask questions of or to get directions to attractions. The lack of service was appalling next to all the other wonderful B&Bs in Gettysburg we've stayed in before.

On top of this, we were overcharged almost $40, which necessitated me having to call them and get a refund. In my email, I specifically requested that the check be written to me with my maiden name, but they didn't manage to get that right, either, which will now require me to wait for them to issue another check.

When I called the owner to let her know of these issues, I was only offered excuses instead of a willingness to update their practices and stop lying about bed sizes on their adverts. We stay in a lot of B&Bs, and never have we had to deal with such incompetence and rudeness.

We will never stay at this "B&B" again, nor will we ever recommend this place to anyone else. The Farnsworth House, Cashtown Inn, or practically ANY of the other inns would be preferable, as their service puts the Tillie...

This was an amazing experience with my wife. Stayed outside of town before but never in town, and I liked our stay in town much better as we were able to walk from our room or drive small distances to see great places. Never enough time to see everything in a weekend, always need more time but if you do it like we did without an itinerary you see a lot more by just saying " yeah let's go in there or do that" . Respect what happened here and realize there is energy, don't deny the things you may see or hear and use them to tell their story as others may do for us at some point even though the factual story here is so true but hard to believe. Our stay was so great outside of someone parking in the sole off street parking spot we had to park and not have to worry about being up at a certain time to move,but that's just the entitled other guest that didn't care about the fact we had a spot and told the owner he will park wherever he wants anyways and should not be welcome back.
