Was the designated driver for my mom and sister and clearly wasn’t drinking, just didn’t have my ID on me. I’m over 21 and even if I’m not drinking, the little girl behind the bar said I needed one. She was told I was the designated driver by everyone and I pulled my phone out to find my scanned birth certificate in my iPhone files and before I could even do anything she said “And a photo isn’t gonna work for me,” in such a rude and snide tone. She can apparently read minds now!! My mom said she was the manager at a bar also in Gettysburg and understood, but that I wasn’t drinking and was driving them all home as a kind gesture to try and explain things. She replied with “And I’m the manager here,” also in a disgusting prissy tone. This all could have been handled so much better had she not had a piss poor attitude. We were understanding of certain policies, but she didn’t have to act like a child about it. And to top it all off, it was a 30 minute wait for DRINKS and her bar wasn’t even full. It was possibly a 30 minute wait because she was enjoying gossiping about the ID situation with her little friends at the bar, also like a child (; So kudos to you girlfriend and Garryowens! We knew there was a reason we’ve lived here for twenty years and have always decided not to go here and y’all shouldn’t either! Sooo many other places you guys can spend your hard earned money at while simultaneously getting treated like you’re an actual human being instead of this place! Choose...
Read moreAs locals, we try to frequent the local small business restaurants every once in a while. We don't get out often with a toddler but we're passing through downtown Gettysburg and my husband wanted to go to Garryowen's. We were really looking forward to our appetizer but our food was brought out 30 minutes after we ordered. I said we never got our appetizer to the staff and our server came back and said it was his fault but the order was in now. By the time we finished our meals, the appetizer came out. It's was less than stellar and we had to rush through it because of the toddler's impending meltdown past bedtime. When we got the check, we were charged for the appetizer. This would have been fine had we gotten it ahead of time but we never would have ordered it after our meals had we known we were going to be charged for it. We didn't even want it at that point but thought they were just bringing it as a courtesy. The server was too busy to flag down to ask about it so we left cash for the bill and left before seeing anyone. This is the second time in a row we've had not great service and will probably not be revisiting in the near future. Also another suggestion, perhaps a different take home container for the shepherd's pie is in order. The boxes don't keep the liquid...
Read moreWhether or not I have any Irish heritage is debatable, but I've loved all-things Irish (well, not 'the troubles' and the potato famine) since I was a kid, and the GO is probably my favorite area dining/drinking/music facility, with the 30 or so minute drive always being well worth it. Yesterday we had our first experience sitting on the newer patio and listening to live music, and it did not disappoint. Food is always good, and you should be able to get whatever drink you want. And they also serve Kilkenney on tap, which I'm finding might be my new favorite, though Guinness is still the most beautiful pour I've ever seen.
I do have one complaint, and that's that the last couple of times I've been there, they were not playing Irish music through the sound system. When I go, I prefer the full Irish experience, which absolutely has to include the music. Perhaps it gets changed up on the weekends, but I don't like going into an Irish pub and hearing American rock. I want to get my full Irish or faux-Irish on. Other than that, I love the place, and the inside certainly compares to the Irish pubs we visited on our trip to Ireland a...
