The Gettysburg Academy was our home away from home when I spent the weekend with college friends. From the moment we arrived, Scott made us feel welcome, and shared his family's fascinating personal history of the property. The rooms were beautifully appointed, and my bed was the most comfortable I've found in a hotel/inn in a very long time. Because there weren't other guests, my friends and I could enjoy the privacy of having the house to ourselves. Breakfast with Lisa and Lydia was beyond amazing and gave us the fuel we needed to start our day.
My friends and I selected the Gettysburg Academy, because our main activity was going to afternoon tea, which the Gettysburg Academy happened to be hosting that same weekend. We were lucky to have reservations, because these teas are very popular and sell out quickly. The food was delicious, and the ambiance was lovely. Apparently, we were the first inn guests to also go to tea. Other tea enthusiasts should consider a "Stay and Tea" combo, since we appreciated the convenience of quickly changing into nice clothes for tea after sightseeing all morning (and changing back into sightseeing clothes again once the tea was over).
My weekend at the Gettysburg Academy was the highlight of my summer and one of my favorite memories of this year. I hope to return someday, and I will surely recommend this beautiful inn to anyone traveling...
Read moreScott and Debra were excellent hosts. We arrived late due to weather delays for our inbound flights but they texted all of the key info so we could access the house and our rooms. The house is very charming with lots of history, period decorations and furnishings. Even though it's a historic house, it had updated kitchen, bathrooms & central A/C. Very impressive upgrades for an older home. Beds were very comfy and off-street parking is very handy. A wonderful surprise was lots of fireflies at dusk on the grounds. One of the best things was breakfast cooked by Lisa. Great pancakes, French toast, eggs, omeletes, fruit plus a very cool selection of mint. She was a wonderful host and very fun to talk with. The Gettysburg Academy location is ideal with easy walking distance to our favorite pub (Sweeney's Tavern at the Farnsworth House) plus Mr. G's ice cream and cool things at the square downtown.
We would definitely stay here again the next time we return...
Read moreWe stayed here from July 26-28, 2024, and we were lucky to have the place to ourselves the whole time. We thoroughly enjoyed relaxing on the upper level back porch. It's an ideal location for walking everywhere you want to go in town, and yet it's still far enough off the main drag to be away from the majority of hustle and bustle.
Scott, the owner, greeted us when we arrived, and gave us a very interesting history of the house. He also stopped by both mornings to chat before we headed out, properly fueled by Lisa's excellent breakfasts! It's definitely your own fault if you leave hungry! 😊
This was our first experience staying at a bed and breakfast, and we were definitely not disappointed in any way! We told Scott that we WILL be back to stay there again, and we're looking forward to it!
Thanks so much for a great experience! 😊
