My mom loves Polish pottery and has since my family lived on a military base in Europe in 1994. Of course, I wanted to buy her Christmas gift early because I saw a billboard for the store and was excited. I know this pottery is expensive... I imagine most people entering this place know what Polish pottery is and specifically seek it out. It's essentially for collectors and families intending to keep it for generations.
The older man in the store was on a personal call when we entered and did not greet us or hang up the call. My boyfriend and I walked around and looked, and I chose a longer plate with pretty flowers for my mom.
When I went up to pay, the man said "hold on" to his personal caller and started wrapping up the plate. He did not greet me, ask me if I had questions, if I found what I wanted, nothing. Furthermore, when I inserted my PNC debit card, he rudely stated that he doesn't take student credit. I look younger than my 28 years and have heard similar comments before, and I can imagine someone must have tried to use student credit in the past here, but most people have the humility to apologize when they realize they messed up. Not this man! He also made another comment after learning my boyfriend and I are from different cities (NYC and Pittsburgh), saying in a snotty, not joking, way that he bets my boyfriend told me Gettysburg is halfway. There was no "thank you" for purchasing a $70 plate, either.
The pieces are beautiful, and maybe the man was having a bad day and was grouchy to serve tourists on a Sunday, but I will not be back. I was treated wonderfully at the Wyndham hotel, Gettysburg Eddie's and the Lincoln Diner as well as by the woman from whom I bought $4 worth of postcards... Everywhere...
Read moreWe found metered parking nearby and had an hour to walk the Gettysburg town area. As. we stumbled upon this pottery store, I thought I was going to view local pottery but once we got closer, I realized it was POLISH POTTERY! I discovered this ultra-functional pottery/art mix a few years ago and love the handful of pieces I've collected. Their selection was delightful and eclectic; I recognized some pieces and fell in love with many more. It's so hard to choose! We enjoyed chatting with the customers and clerk, I purchased a few beautiful pieces and introduced my travel buddy to the delights of this pottery and she too went home with a couple of delightful pieces. Later I discovered I was overcharged for one sale item and emailed. The owner responded quickly with his contact information and I was given a refund. He offered to "Facetime" with me in the future when I was ready to acquire more pieces - his prices are reasonable and I look forward to doing business with them again. Thank you...
Read moreI’m so glad we found this wonderful store during our long weekend visit to Gettysburg for a friend’s wedding. We stopped in and were amazed by the authentic Polish pottery. Everything in the store is handmade and authentic. The real shining part of this experience though was Linda, the associate who helped us. She explained the history and process of the pottery in great detail and even helped locate more of a pattern we found that we liked. She wrapped and packed all of our purchases safely for the trip home. Linda was incredibly helpful and so nice to talk with! She’s an incredible asset to the experience at this store and we look forward to coming back when we next plan a visit to Gettysburg.
Linda, thanks for all of your help and assistance — and for helping us find everything available with the star pattern on...
