Mary's Magical Place — Attraction in Hendersonville

This is a really beautiful new playground in Hendersonville, just off Vietnam Veterans Hwy at the Indian Lakes exit. Terrific and creative use of some empty land next to the highway (which was surprisingly not intrusive once you're in the park), the playground is specifically geared to serve kids with disabilities but, as I often (always?) find, places with this mission end up serving the community at large as well. Lots of things to interact with and we did see several young wheelchair users come visit the park and take a spin on the specially designed swing set to accommodate wheel chair users. Not only a great place just in and of itself but also lovely to see a greater section of our community...

Accommodating for ages 18 months to early teens. The playground has different sections that are meant for different age groups. 2-4 year olds would enjoy one area with smaller climbs and slides and it ranges to upper age groups, for example one part has a really tall slide that is only accessible by climbing a rope net. Whoever designed this playground needs a pay raise! Very safe and definitely kept potential falls in mind with soft terrain and turf!

Where they really outdid themselves was that throughout the playground, there are little tiles or etchings in the surfaces that teach some sign language and braille....

Superior playground. Age related equipment so that new walkers through 12 year olds have different places to play. Entire play area surface is high quality "AstroTurf" over some type of spongy material. Perimeter sidewalk allows for parents to move quickly around the park. A small pavilion is near the entrance with several picnic tables.

CAUTION: Some areas have no accident prevention barriers. For example, the overhead trolly "zip line" area is wide open do that children may walk into the pathway of a "zipping" child.
