Hermosa Beach Friends of the Library — Attraction in Hermosa Beach

As book lover on vacation in Hermosa Beach, stumbling upon the Hermosa Beach Friends of the Library Bookstore felt like finding buried treasure! This cozy little shop is a hidden gem tucked just off the main drag, and it absolutely made my day.

The selection was surprisingly robust for a small space with gently loved fiction and loads of kids’ books to cookbooks, biographies, and even beach reads (perfectly on brand!). I picked up a couple of novels and a beautiful coffee table book, nothing was more than a dollar. Everything was incredibly well-organized, and you can tell the volunteers really care about this space.

Speaking of the volunteers — they were so friendly, helpful, and clearly passionate about books and their community. We had a lovely chat about local authors and events, and I left feeling more connected to the town than I ever expected from a short visit.

If you’re in the area, don’t miss this spot — it’s the kind of place that warms your heart and reminds you why small, community-driven spaces matter so much. I’ll definitely be back next time...

This place is a real pearl in the Hermosa oyster. It may be small, but one is immediately charmed by its almost magical decor with subtle lighting and collections of varied, colorful, some vintage bookmarks suspended from wheels, attached to open ceiling joists. They are indeed perfect, literary stalactites that remind all that this is a bookstore that promotes and supports literacy. The pricing is further evidence of this support with each softcover only 50 cents and each hardcover one dollar. The collection spans several genres and signage makes it easy to browse, along with an incredibly helpful, friendly and all volunteer staff.

As a unique, nonprofit, literary organization, its very existence depends on the generosity of its patrons and this patron has no reluctance to supporting it.

The Hermosa Beach Friends of Library is such a special place. You feel comfortable and welcome as soon as you walk in!

You are greeted by friendly and helpful volunteers that are ready to take your donations or check you out after you've found books that you can't possibly live without!

The prices are unbelievable! Only one dollar for a hard cover and 50 cents for a soft cover! Children's books are only 50 cents for a hard cover and 25 cents for a soft cover! DVDs are only 50 cents!
