The Valerie Theater is a historic structure in downtown Inverness that was rescued and renovated several years ago, then reopened. It occasionally plays movies but usually hosts live plays put on by the Valerie Players or live music. Seating is not fixed; this allows the theater to move all or some chairs out to accommodate dancing and other gatherings. The negative is that when you do want to purchase a seat for a performance, you do not get to select your seat in advance; first come, first served is how it works to grab your seats at the Valerie. I prefer selecting from assigned seating, so that is a negative for me. The sound system and lighting for plays is totally adequate; performers have wireless headsets that they speak into, guaranteeing everyone in the audience can hear them speak. There is no handicapped or wheelchair seating; those requiring accommodation with end row have to ask attendees to voluntarily move over one to fit them in; theater staff do not assist with that, at least not during the performance I attended. There are very high priced soft drinks, candy and popcorn available for purchase in the lobby. Tickets can be purchased and printed out online, or you can take a gamble on buying at the ticket booth before the performance. There is no dedicated theater parking available; you can choose convenient on street parking at parking meters or walk a little bit and park for free across from the...
Read moreWe just visited for the first time to watch The Christmas Story. We brought our family of 7 and grandma. I was very impressed with the spaciousness of the seating, would be very handicapped friendly. My older children said next time they wanted to sit in the balcony - which I think is just awesome.
I had to take my 12mo out toward the end of the movie and was happy that they had a smaller screen in the lobby so I could still watch whilst my little one explored. They did not have a diaper changing station in any of the restrooms, which I mentioned to the attendant and they said they would be getting one.
For being such a small theater, I thought the drink selection was very good and reasonably priced. They were 16oz bottles for $2, water for $1. They had small boxes of popcorn for $1 or $2. Considering the tickets are $3 each, this is a GREAT option for large families looking for an...
Read moreI saw a Blazing Saddles with my family and it was nice seeing it on a big screen but I didn't particularly care for the chair selection they took out the original seating from the theater and I think that was a mistake now they've got folding chairs with some cushion on them but they're not theater chairs and were not particularly comfortable I like the way that the theater was decorated bright cheerful there's a stage where they could put on some type of performance which I suppose is useful The $3 ticket price was nostalgic to a different era and a dollar popcorn was nice I think it would have been better if the popcorn had been freshly made in a popcorn popper and not pre-made...
